Theodore Wells Oppel
September 23, 1933 – April 26, 2018
Theodore Wells Oppel was born September 23, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and peacefully passed away on April 26, 2018 among family in Kingwood, Texas. Ted was a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. and M.S. in geology. At the university he met his wife Jo Oppel and made many life long friends.
After college and military service Ted began his oil and gas career. It began in New Mexico and west Texas where Jo and Ted started their family which eventually brought them to Houston.
Ted was on the forefront of international exploration and enjoyed a long and distinguished career. He traveled the world and experienced many interesting people.
Ted always found time for his family as family came first.
Ted retired shortly after his beloved wife Jo passed in 1999. In retirement, he enjoyed family events, playing golf and traveling. He was fortunate to find a friend, Dana, to share his love of travel.
Ted will be remembered as a rare combination of strength, compassion for family first and unwavering love for life.
Ted is predeceased by his wife, Jo, his parents, Wells and Irene and his brother, Tom.
He is survived by his son Jeffrey Wells Oppel,his wife Cynthia. His daughter Leslie Jo Fairchild and her husband Nick. Three grandchildren, Crysta Marie Dillashaw, her husband Brad, Savannah Jo Oppel and Zachery Wells Fairchild.
A celebration of life and fellowships will be held in a garden ceremony at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Rd., Kingwood Tx from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. May 5, 2018. The family has requested in lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Association at donate3.cancer.org .
