Bud leaves his wife of 37 years, Doreen Roth; his daughter, Jennifer Roth and her husband (Jamie Kolb); his son, Derek Roth and his wife (Monique Roth); his daughter Suzie Roth Zarlington and her husband (Steve Zarlington); his son, Brian Roth and his wife (Makayla Roth); seven grandchildren (Avery, Sloane, Shane, Morgan, Jesse, Urielle and Molly); his sister Carol Jerolman and her husband (George Jerolman); his brother John Vets and his wife (Louise Vets); his brother Edward Vets and his wife (Cheryl Vets); and his two dogs (Max and Tami). He is predeceased by his mother Frances Vets Roth (Haas), his father Vincent A. Roth, his stepmother Lucyann Roth, his sisters Nancy Roth (Notaro) and Kathy Vets (Acabbo), and his brother, Edward Roth.
Born in Hamden, Connecticut to Vincent A. and Frances Vets Roth (Haas), Bud was a star athlete in high school, distinguishing himself with careers in football and ice hockey. After high school, he attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 3 years. Following his stint in the Coast Guard, Bud started at the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) where he ended up working his entire career, living in Sweden, Denmark, California, Holland, France, England, South Korea and Japan, ultimately moving to Houston and serving as the President of the Americas division, the Senior Vice President of ABS, and the Corporate Chief of Staff.
A lifelong golf enthusiast, Bud enjoyed his retirement, playing golf at Kingwood Country Club up to five times a week with his friends and colleagues. He was a man of integrity who loved his family, his pets and a good meal. He was a great man who will be missed by many.
A visitation will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home on March 2 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Houston SPCA.
