In His Own Words
I was born December 23, 1924, to Albert W. Krueger Jr. and Hilda Kasten Krueger in Appleton, Wisconsin. Graduated youngest of the class of June 1942, from Appleton High School and then went into the military in January 1943. I went first into the 4th Amphibian Brigade and then in June to the Army Air Corps. I got my wings and commission in what is now, the U.S. Air Force on my 20th birthday, December 23, 1944, flew P40s and then the great P51s in the 3rd Air Force. In January 1946, I entered the University of Minnesota on the GI bill and got my degree in June 1948. While in school and doing my reserve flying, I met Betty Nevius. GOD is Good because we were married January 3, 1948. I went to work for Ft. Howard Paper Co. My territory covered the southern half of Texas and part of Louisiana. We settled in Houston where Betty and I had three fantastic Texans, Steve, Ann, and Jim who made us the richest people in the world. Ft. Howard moved us to Cleveland, Ohio. Shortly, we moved back to Houston and I became Sales Manager for Brawner Paper Co. I was then hired as Territory Manager for Steiner American with Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas and then added Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, New Mexico, Missouri, Tenn., Mississippi to my territory. Georgia Pacific bought the Steiner Mills and reluctantly I became Eastern Sales Manager responsible for everything East of the Rockies and Director of International Development- lots of work and travel. Retirement began in February 1990.
Always during our life on Friday afternoon, the business door was closed. Lots of golf, bridge, bowling and dining out with great people and friends. We opened that door on Monday morning to face the problems inside.
Our fantastic Texans brought more wonderful people to our family tree, Steve’s good work was Wendy, Ann’s was Frank, and Jim’s was Rhonda. Ann and Frank were blessed with Mike who married Nikki, and gave us, greatgrandchildren Payton, Rylee, and Emma. Will married Holle who added greatgrandchildren Lucas, Jackson, and Parker. Jen married Ben who added greatgrandchildren, Ethan and Lilian – A golden tree.
“Yeah, tho I fly thru the valley of death, I shall fear no evil, as I am at 6500 feet and climbing to where Christ has promised us eternal life and there, I shall wait for those I love, first of all Betty the greatest wife and friend in the world who steered our life together and those of our three Texans as I traveled the world. She did it in a wonderful way and gave me love that has a depth and blessing beyond understanding.
Wally Krueger passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on July 29, 2021.
