William Anthony McDaid

On May 29, 2025, Bill McDaid (Mahaffey) passed away peacefully in his home in Kingwood, Texas. Bill, or Billy to his siblings, leaves behind his wife Terry, whom he married 61 years ago in Old Hill England, and honeymooned in Buncrana, Donegal. His surviving three children Will (wife Janet), Thomas (wife Jill), and Amanda live in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Texas, respectively. Michael, his youngest son, sadly preceded him in death 4 years ago. Bill was Granddad to Monica, Evan, Erin, Aidan, Gavin, Claire and Abigail, and Great Grandad to Cora, Cosette, and Jaeger. Bill was born in Derry on the 5th of March, 1941, the eldest son of 11 children of Willie (Maffey) and Lily (nee’ Cassidy) McDaid. He was big brother to Betty, Tom, Margaret, Eileen (deceased), Michael (deceased), Maire, (deceased), Pauline, Geraldine, Damien and Martin.

Bill went to school in the Christian Brothers, Long Tower before going to St. Columb’s College. He started his career with the British Sound Reproduction Company (BSR) in Birmingham, England, and with them moved to America, where he eventually became president of the company, and stayed in the USA to raise his family. He later branched out and started his own company. Bill loved his Irish background and roots and maintained very close contact with his home and family back in Ireland, returning often for celebrations, events and holidays. Derry and Buncrana were his favorite places to spend his time. Those in the “Excelsior Bar” in Buncrana should remember him and Terry during their many summer vacations there. He was greatly loved by all the McDaid family around the globe, including Terry’s extended family in England. He was a true patriarch of the “McDaid “ family and will be forever missed and sorely mourned. Until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of his hands.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Martha's Catholic Church in the Holy Family Chapel. 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, Texas 77365.

Following the Funeral Mass there please join the family at the McDaid home in Kingwood for refreshments.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
