Alexander Webster Guthrie - A life well lived and a proud father, grandad, husband and friend well loved. Alex passed away peacefully on July 18, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. Alex worked in a lengthy textile career spanning the globe, bringing him and his family to Canada in 1965. In 1999 he retired from the KW Record and went on to enjoy his many lifelong passions and hobbies. These included raising exotic birds, master woodworking, extensive travel around the globe and playing music. He was never happier than in the company of friends celebrating a holiday or birthday or supporting others and contributing to the life of the church. Predeceased in 2015 by his cherished wife Ruth. He has left behind and is deeply mourned by a large loving family. Daughter Elaine (John), son Stephen (Joanne), son Trevor (Sibylle), daughter Laura (Marc), and stepdaughters Gwen and Holly (Robert). Included in his legacy are many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by his siblings; David (Beryl), Alice (Bob), Robert (Cathy) all in Scotland. Alex’s family will receive friends on Saturday, July 20 from 12:30-1:30 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (54 Queen St. N. Kitchener) followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm. Alex’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation for the attentive and compassionate care provided at every level by the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital.
