Obituary of Anna Dubeckyj
On August 1, 2022, Anna Dubeckyj passed peacefully and gracefully in her 97th year surrounded and held by her family at Sunnyside Long Term Care. We find comfort in knowing that Anna is now at peace and is with her husband Iwan (1926-2011) and Granddaughter Tatiana (1981-2018). Anna is lovingly cherished by her children, Ihor (Irene), Odarka (Kevin), Jerry, Walter (Donna), Lesia and Yuri (Donna Marie). Loved Baba of Andrika, Brent, Daniel, Krisia, Natalie, Andrew, Laurissa, Sarah, Thomas, Christopher, and Evelyn, and 5 great grandchildren. Anna and Iwan were extremely proud of their Ukrainian heritage and ensured their children were immersed in the Ukrainian culture as they grew up. Anna survived the horrors of WWII and came to Canada and built a new life with Iwan and her children that followed. Anna loved the outdoors and camping trip adventures with her family and Iwan. On walks, mom knew the names of all the flowers, plants and trees and shared stories of the landscape of the farm in Ukraine where she grew up. Her home and garden were resplendent with the plants and gardens that she lovingly and expertly tended. Family gatherings brought Anna the greatest joy, to see everyone together, laughing, sharing stories. Food was always a major feature of these gatherings and mom worked tirelessly to prepare everyone's favorite dishes. When popping by to visit, there was always something cooking on the stove, or containers of food to take home. Mum loved working with her hands, sewing clothes and costumes, knitting blankets for everyone, crocheting delicate Christmas ornaments, cross stitching masterpieces, until her eyes failed her. Mum rarely sat idle, always busy with something and was an inspiration to us all. Anna was committed to ensuring the happiness of those she loved. Her smile lit up her face and her giggle was infectious. Anna had a gift for finding joy and beauty in the simplest things and has inspired us to do the same. Anna's family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to all the staff at Sunnyside Long Term Care, especially in Pioneer Tower for ensuring Anna's comfort and care during her time there. Prayers for Anna will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, where the visitation will take place from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Burlington. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations would be appreciated to the Sunnyside Foundation, 247 Franklin St. N., Kitchener, ON N2A 1Y5. Online condolences at
