SCHNEIDER, Betty Grace (née Ruppel)
Wife of the late Herbert J. Schneider passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Parkwood Mennonite Home in Waterloo, Ontario. Betty was the fifth and youngest child of Carl and Babe Ruppel, predeceased by her granddaughter Sarah Whetham, her three older brothers Kenneth, Earl (Chubby) and C. Douglas Ruppel and her sister, Dorothy Chalmers. All of her brothers served overseas in WWll with the RCAF. Betty idolized her brothers and due to their influence grew up as a tomboy who loved outdoor pursuits. She attended Elizabeth Ziegler Public School where she excelled in her studies and sporting events. She attended KCI and participated in many school and intramural events including K-W Airettes, an organization for girls associated with the local Air Cadet Squadron. From KCI she went in to nursing training and graduated with her RN from Hamilton Civic Hospital in 1949. Betty was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She took several Canadian Power Squadron courses and enjoyed boating at the family cottage on Georgian Bay. She was also an accredited scuba diver. She was a member of Chicopee Ski Club for over 50 years and a member of the adult racing team. Betty loved her community and the Grand River. She spent many years as a volunteer with the Grand River Conservation Authority.
Betty is survived by her four children: Gretchen (Bob) Whetham, Eric (Minto) Schneider, Nancy Schneider, Kurt Schneider and five grandchildren: Bryce McBride, Chelsea McBride, Michael Schneider, Willem Schneider and Lija Schneider (Mik Vasarais).
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
