I am so sorry to hear that Cherrie pasted away.  I did not know she was sick and went so fast for her.  I would like to express my deepest condolences to JJ, Matthew and family.  I worked with Cherrie and was a friend to her through work.  I am so shocked to hear this news.  She was so much fun and had such a great sense of humour, we always were laughing at work with her.  Cherrie, so loved her family, that was always her priority.  When you retire you loose contact with each other.  I know this will be a difficult time for you, I definitely will be think of you!

Cherrie was my close friend and a sister inChrist. She was there for me when my beloved husband Jun  got sick with cancer till he passed away. She cooked for my kids and freezes it so that they will have a warm meal while I’m in the hospital with Jun. Oh Cherrie. you are now in the arms of our Lord Jesus. Mr Allan, Matt and family,

I am saddened to hear of Cherrie’s passing. I was truly so lucky to grow up with a friendship like Matt’s and to spend so much time with Mr & Mrs Allan.  I have many fond childhood memories with this family that I keep so close to the heart. Thinking of you all at this time.

I am so saddened to hear of Cherie's passing. She was such a sweet  person who spread her kindness across the organization when she worked at DRPS. She always had a smile and a kind word and would send little surprises in the inter-office mail. I am deeply sorry for your loss JJ and family and may she rest in eternal peace.

Cherrie and I go back a long way. We met when she was about 7 years old.  I was 5 years older and the new babysitter for Cherrie and the boys.  The family was living on Barrie Avenue, and we lived on Banting.  My oldest sister, Bonnie, started going out with Gloria's brother, Al, and I started hanging out at the Lawton household.  Cherrie was not the oldest, but she was the responsible one, growing up with 3 boys in her family. She was smart and kind and a caring little soul. She was a dream to be with and helped tidy up, do dishes and watch the boys.  During the years, we met up now and again. She was always gracious and inviting, and a big hug greeted me.  I am so sorry all this happened to Cherrie, a really good and caring person.  She had a wonderful caregiver in John, who was by her side, loving her fiercely.

I was one of many D.R.P. colleagues who were privileged to work with Cherrie.  Her personality and work ethic were positive and infectious.  Sincerest condolences to J.J. and Matthew.

We did not know Cherrie for a long time, we would meet often in the apartment where she and John  lived just down the halls from us in Oshawa .
We came to realize very quickly that she was a very lovely and caring person . Quite often we would see her carrying trays of cookies etc 
for people in her Church or to someone in need of a little cheering.
Always with a big smile , and ready to share some goodies with us .
Her strength and courage during her illness was remarkable ,as 
was her strong faith in God, it helped her overcome her many battles John , Matt and Leeza you are all in our thoughts and prayers

Cherrie & I meet when we were 14 years old. It was the first day of school (grade 8) and Cherrie came up to me and said “aren’t you the girl who lives across the street from me?” I was, and that was how our friendship started.  During our early years our lives took us in different directions but our paths always crossed and when they did we just picked up where we left off. It was like we had just seen each other the day before instead of a few years. Someone told me once that was a sign of a true friendship. And Cherrie was exactly that. There are many words to describe Cherrie but the ones that come to mind for those who knew and loved her would be loyalty, generosity, kindness and maybe a little stubbornness for balance. 😊 Cherrie was always there to support a friend and give great advice when needed. She had a great sense of humour and could make you laugh. Just seeing her beautiful smile made you smile. We talked about so many things over the years and had great discussions. Cherrie’s faith was very important to her as was her family.  She told me on more than one occasion how lucky she was to have found John.  She said he was such a kind & caring person that she knew he was the man she wanted to marry.  She was so proud of Matt & how hard he worked to get his licence. She loved Leeza & looked forward to her joining their family.  Cherrie & I worked together for years so each work day was a joy as I was with my friend. As I mentioned earlier Cherrie had a bit of stubbornness in her but I prefer to think of it as strength. Cherrie was a strong woman like her mother Gloria. I believe it was this strength & her faith that saw her through the hard times. Cherrie leaves behind so many people who loved her but she also left us with a piece of her, for we are all better for having known her.  I will forever cherish the friendship we had & the memories of Cherrie will forever be in my heart. ♥️ I miss you my friend!!

I  worked with Cherrie for many years in Records.  Always so kind, funny and loved taking care of people. She was also a great worker and did quality work.  We had lots of great talks and laughs.  Rest in Peace Cherrie.

I had the privilege of being one of Mrs. Cherrie’s adopted campus kids during my senior year in Bible college. Although I had seen her around the church many times, I never really got to know her until she became my campus mom. If I were to describe her, she was the lady who was always smiling, with short white hair and adorable bangs.

My first impression of Mrs. Cherrie was that she was a sweet lady, which proved to be true. She was kind, soft-spoken, and generous. She often told us that she never had a daughter and that she loved spending time with us, her campus kids. On several occasions, she took us out for restaurant dates and shopping trips. She would always let us choose the restaurant and never hesitated to try new cuisines. She often offered to pay when we went shopping, but we wouldn’t let her, spending time with her was already more than enough.

Whenever exams were approaching, she would text us and sometimes write cards with a goodie bag full of candies and snacks to help us get through studying. Her words of encouragement left a lasting impact on all of us, especially on me, and will stay with me forever.

Even after graduation, Mrs. Cherrie wanted to stay close and asked if we could continue our friendship despite the 2,000 miles between us. We made it a point to stay in touch through messages and calls, keeping our bond strong no matter the distance.

When I got engaged, I knew I had to tell her. I truly thought I would still see her at my wedding, but even though that didn’t happen, I know she was genuinely happy for me.

When I heard the news of her passing, I felt relieved knowing she no longer had to suffer from cancer. Though she will be deeply missed, I find comfort in knowing she is with her Saviour now, rejoicing and praising Him.

Mrs. Cherrie, thank you for being such a wonderful friend and a second mom. I will always treasure your friendship and the memories we shared. I love you. Until we meet again. ❤️

Miss Cherrie became my campus mom during my second year at Faithway College. She is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. She welcomed me with open arms and loved me as her own daughter. In my third and final year of college, God blessed me by allowing me to be her campus daughter. Having her by my side—and knowing she was always praying for me—gave me strength and courage throughout those precious three years.

Thank you for coming into my life and loving me. Thank you for all the memories I will never forget, but instead cherish forever.

Dear John and Matt,
Our deepest condolences to you. We were so fortunate to buy our house across from yours in 1997 and to have you as neighbours for so many years. Matt was a good friend to Alana, Sharon, and my sister’s son James as they were growing up, and Cherrie quickly became my best friend.

To know Cherrie was to love her — she was so giving, so full of love, and we felt like kindred spirits. Even after John and Cherrie moved away from Auburn Court, she and I continued to meet for lunches and dinners (often making friends with the wait staff who came to know us well). We never ran out of things to talk about, and we always had a wonderful time together.

Cherrie was quick to help whenever it was needed, often seeing a need and quietly filling it before anyone even asked. Her generosity reached far beyond friends and family — she devoted countless hours volunteering at her church, helping with Bible school, preparing food and desserts for special occasions, and providing meals for congregation members and friends in need. She would help anyone at the drop of a hat, without question.

Her creativity and kindness were truly inspirational. Whether it was her beautifully sewn hooded towels for my girls when they were little, her crochet-handled hand towels for their kitchens and bathrooms when they were older, or her specialty baking — desserts that were both delicious and so fancy! — she poured love into everything she did. Her smile was infectious, and her laugh could light up a room.

I am so grateful to have had Cherrie as a friend. Her love and generosity were contagious, and those who knew her were better for it. She inspired others to be selfless and to give freely, just as she did. I will forever keep her in my heart; she lives on in the many precious memories we shared.

Cherrie was a wonderful person in every respect. 
It is said that one can fully take a person's true measure by how they face life's adversities. Cherrie and John (JJ) faced Cherrie's daunting illness with incredible bravery and grace. When fine people die before their time, that is a sad aspect of our human experience ...  But Cherrie lives on through her grand family and an indestructible legacy. RIP

Thank you for the unlimited friendship you gave me. You are one of my dearest—lovely, funny, and always making sure that I was singing joyfully for our Saviour. Your sweetness and your jolly heart were truly contagious.
Thank you for being my true friend. I’ve kept the yellow tulip you gave me, because you told me it was your way of saying that I’m your friend—and I will treasure it always.

Cherrie was my friend who treated me like her younger sister and I’m so grateful God brought our paths together even if only for 9 ish years here. She allowed me into her life to see what was important to her, “my John, my Matt” and more recently “Matt’s Leeza”, her brothers, and of course, God. She always spoke fondly of you all. 

Her heart of gold in wanting to help in any way she could is my favourite memory.
She was always finding ways to bless others. 
To my favourite baking teacher, church canvassing partner, Bible seeker and coffee buddy, see you soon, save some exploring of heaven for when I get there!

Cherrie was a beautiful soul and wonderful co-worker.  Great smile but when she did get a laugh going, it lit up a room.
