Dorothy was born to the late Raymond Doucette and Francis (Deveau) in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on October 11, 1917.
In her younger years she enjoyed ice skating, knitting and house cleaning. Later in life she got a job as head cashier at Sobey’s grocery store in Nova Scotia and worked for many years at Sears department store after relocating to Ontario.
Never one to sit idle with mind or hands, she and Herb started their own cleaning business which she thoroughly enjoyed. After retirement they spent time together doing puzzles, and each fall took a road trip back home to Halifax to visit old friends and family.
Dorothy enjoyed every aspect of cooking. She loved wandering through grocery stores picking out the best produce (often commenting how expensive things were getting) and bringing it home to prepare it. Rappie pie (an Acadian dish) was one of her favorites to prepare as it reminded her of down home.
Through the years Dorothy remained healthy and full of energy always willing and eager to hang out with family. She was able to enjoy numerous outings and adventures including a Christmas cruise to the Caribbean for her 100th birthday.
She loved her family deeply and was ever so appreciative at the end of a day together saying, "Thank you, I had a wonderful day."
Dorothy’s journey through life was marked by her love for authentic conversation, her generous heart, and her strong, feisty, courageous spirit.
