Rest in peace Oom Hans. Our memories of you are many and stretch back through the years ... all the way from the early days in Pike Bay, fishing out of your Cedar Strip or making the drive to Whiskey Point on windy, rainy days to the more recent golf game we were able to have at Myrtle Beach. You were a good man and it was a pleasure to know you and to have you as an uncle ... Phil de Haan

Our sincere condolences go out to Stien, Helen and Phil. Hans was a prince among men.
We, like the Nusselders were also long-time, active members of Community Christian Reformed Church. During many of those years, we were priviledged to have Hans as our District Elder. He was a credit to his God and his church community.
Also as with the Nusselders, we always enjoy our stays in Myrtle Beach. One year, while checking into Forest Dunes, we thought we saw Hans going into the pool shelter. I went down and sure enough he was in the lazy river. I sat there until he floated by. He was so startled to see me that I nearly had to go in and stop him from drowning.
Hans, you will live on in our hearts and memories.

I feel blessed to have had such a caring, fun, and genuine uncle as Oom Hans.  I always enjoyed sitting with the aunts and uncles whenever they came to visit my parents.  Oom Hans was the life of the party... from his Farmer's Market Frickedellen Sausage, to his latest golf game, from the Praise Team Cowboy stories to his fancy bow ties that he would wear for special occasions.  He was a very extraordinary man. 
Growing up out west, I didn't see Oom Hans too often.  However,  there were visits (including my parents 25th anniversary 'reunion') that I still cherish to this day.
Although we will are not there in person, we are be thinking of you, Tante Stien, Helen and Phil, Oom Wim, Tante Jo (and all of your families), and praying for you at this extremely difficult time.  We celebrate with you the man that he was (and will continue to be in memory) to our family.  We are filled with mixed emotions.  We are saddened that he will not be here on earth  with us anymore, but are relieved that his suffering is now over.  
What a great race you ran, Oom Hans!!

My heart goes out to Tante Stien, Helen and Phil and their extended families at this time of sorrow. He was such a great man in so many ways. I have so many special memories but probably the most significant one was when Ben died and he was at the Toronto airport to pick me up and consol me. I will never forget that! 

I'm sorry I can't be there with you all to celebrate his life and share all our great memories. I consider it a priviledge to call him my uncle. I take comfort in the knowledge that he has been freed from his suffering and is now experiencing glory with his Lord and Saviour!

That is exactly what i remember of oom Hans too...fun loving with a sparkle in his eye!!!  (you never knew what was coming next...but it was always worth waiting for)  What a great slide show with wonderful pictures spanning his life.  His life is one to be celebrated!!!!

Oom Hans will be dearly missed....fun loving, caring and a heart of gold. I have great memories with Oom Hans. For example, a trip to Toronto for a Leaf's game back in the late 70's, a game of golf in the St. Catharines area and baseball in Kitchener in the early 80's. (obviously he had a great love for sports as well). Tante Stien, thank you for always opening your home to me while I went to University, we had many good conversations together. I always enjoyed those times very much. Strength and peace to you all.
