Joan Tufts

March 9, 1939January 30, 2018

Peacefully at her home on Tuesday January 30, 2018, in her 79th year. Predeceased by her husband James (Jimmy) Tufts, Joan will always be remembered as a loving mom by Jeff (Ruthanne) Tufts. Loving Nana to Alyssa Ott (Eric) of Edmonton, Madison Tufts (Alison) and Samantha Tufts all of Kitchener. Predeceased by her parents: John and Anne Moffatt and by her brother Gord Moffatt. She will be sadly missed by her brother John (Pat) Moffatt and their family as well as brother-in-law Bob (Joan) Tufts and sister-in-law Laura Moffatt. Joan was very active in the drum corps community (Scout House – Preston, Mighty Saint Joes – Rochester NY to name a few of many) from a very young age up to the time of her passing. She enjoyed her “family” at the corps and the many friendships that she made. Very active as well in the Lions Club where she further solidified her sense of friendship and community. As Joan requested, cremation has taken place. Any further arrangements will be decided at a later date. Details will be provided then. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be greatly appreciated.

I had the pleasure of sharing two of Joans loves. Drum Corps and Lions! A number of years ago when the Hostess Company stopped making some of our favorite snacks Joan brought Hostess Twinkies from Canada to a Drums Along the Waterfront in Orchard Park, NY just for me!! It was not easy finding each other in the masses of Drum Corps fanatics, but we did!! That is the kind of friendship we shared. Fly High Joan!! Lion Patty Jean Strong

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff and his family in the loss of his mother. We met Joan and Jim many years ago when our son Tom and Jeff played sports. Joan and Jim are now together and can live in everlasting peace!

Jeff, Ruthanna and family; It saddens me to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of Joan and will cherish them always. She can now rest in peace with Jim and they both shall watch over you all.

When you speak of her, speak not with tears, for thoughts of her should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort, for her life was rich because of you.

I will miss Joan. We always chatted on our mutual birthdays. She was a good friend to me and my late husband Paul. I will forward a donation to the Heart Foundation in her memory. Judy Modray
