As we've finally been able to "get the band back together", we're missing Joann's smile and her leading hand in the flute section of the Waterloo Concert Band.  
She's being remembered fondly and talked about often.

Joanne and I first met at St Paul School in Kitchener.  She was the kindergarten teacher and it was so hard to find her in a classroom because she was so small!  I taught grade 8 and a friendship developed.   The following summer,  in 1975, Joanne and I decided to go to Hawaii.  It was incredible!  We swam and surfed for two whole weeks, it was heaven.  It was my inspiration to go 10 more times to Hawaii with my husband.  Joanne was a beautiful bridesmaid in my wedding party back in 1976.  She was a wonderful friend with a great laugh.  Hugs to her family, she will be deeply missed.               Catherine & John Hohmeier🙏

I remember so well the trip to Nova Scotia for one of Grant & Lorraine's boys & Aunt Toos & Joanne met up with at the reversing tides.  We all had a great time together.  My Mom & Dad were with us too!  Good time visiting.

Joann and I met some 50 years ago as we wandered the halls of Waterloo Lutheran University looking for our night class. Thus began a friendship that I will always treasure.  I and my family were blessed to have Joann as part of our lives over the years. Our life paths kept us from visiting often, however, our family has many precious memories of the times we did spend together.  Joann always seemed to show up when we most needed her.  She will be sorely missed.  My condolences to John, Kate & families.  Peace be with you all.

Dear Joann, You were an amazing kindergarten teacher.  Tanya Slezak Hunter was in your room way back in 1980 and you were the best!  You also played the flute at her wedding in 2001.  This I thought was so sweet to have your kindergarten teacher play at your wedding.  You will be missed and I was saddened to hear of your sudden passing.  Rest in peace in the arms of God.  You truly were one of his angels.

Kate, John & Families,  It is with great sadness that Joann  is no longer with us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Having worked with Joann in her class at Blessed Sacrament, not only was she an awesome teacher,  she displayed a caring attitude towards the children . She was also part of our Blessed Sacrament "Diva"  dinner group.  Joann always enjoyed many great times at our cottage in Southampton.
Her love for music was her "God" given talent.  We will miss her playing her flute in Blessed Sacrament Choir.  Heaven has gained  an angelic choir member.  Joann will be missed by all. 

I taught with Joann at Blessed Sacrament and remember her for her enthusiasm she had for her students. She was an excellent kindergarten teacher, very kind and patient. After we retired, our group known as the DIVAS would still get together to celebrate our teaching lives. Our last time together was in Mexico ( Feb. 2020), where I got to know more of this special lady. We shared our love of music at concerts and conversations about the KW Symphony. Thanks for all the memories, Joann. Peace to you.

Miss Koehler was my kindergarten teacher at Notre Dame while we waited for Blessed Sacrament to be built. She was so kind, and taught me lessons I have passed down to my kids (eat your veggies first, so you can get as much of the healthy food into you as possible before you get full).  I remember on our birthdays we would get a "pinch to grow and inch and a punch to learn a bunch" - something my kids and I do every year too. She, Mr. Karn and Madame V wrote our school song. Heaven's choir will sound even more beautiful with her in it. Rest in peace to the teacher that started so many eager students on their educational journey.

It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of your dear sister, Joann.  We worked together at St. Mark School from 1978 to 1980, and fortunately our paths crossed quite a few times over the years, in particular when the (original) staff got together.  Joann was always engaged in any conversation, always a great listener, and a gentle and supportive spirit.  She was not only a great teacher, giving students a great beginning to their education, but left a lasting impression on so many students by her creativity and sincere care.  I will pray for dear Joann, and will pray for all of you, that the consolation and peace that comes from our faith in the resurrection of Jesus will be yours.  God bless you!

Joann cared enough to travel some 400 miles to attend my wedding in the USA in 2001. We taught together at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Kitchener. I used to read to her kindergarten class in order for her to have planning time. It was a great time for me. She obviously cared a great deal for her students. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to her close firends and family at this most difficult time. No words are adequate at these times.
