

Karen passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Innisfree House, Kitchener. She is survived by her beloved husband, Sgt. Michael Rusnak (Ret.) and sons Robert Douglas Rusnak and Michael James Rusnak; her mother Jean (Brett) Nicholls, sister Marilyn Brett and brother James D. Brett. Predeceased by her father T.J. Douglas Brett (1983) and sister Jo-Anne (Brett) Walker (1994). Karen graduated from Grapeview Public School in 1957 and then completed a four year Commercial Course at Thorold High School graduating in June 1961. Karen was employed by the St. Catharines Standard as an Ad Writer until September 1964. Moving to Nova Scotia, Karen and Michael were married on February 24, 1965. Michael was working as Radar Tech in the Search and Rescue Division of the RCAF, CFB Greenwood, NS. Robert Douglas Rusnak was born October 1965. Michael was posted to CFB Comox, BC in January 1966 for ten years. Michael James Rusnak was born May 1967. Returning to Ontario in 1976, Karen and Michael were posted to CFB Trenton for five years and then returned to CFB Greenwood, NS in 1981. On retur ning to Halifax, Karen was employed as a civilian secretary by the RCMP, Halifax. Michael was granted an honourable discharge after 25 years of active service. Moving to Kitchener, Karen was transferred to an RCMP office in the vicinity. She retired shortly after. They had planned to retire in Kitchener to be closer to the boys. Cremation has taken place and a private time of remembrance will be held by the family at a later date.
