Passed on at The Village of Winston Park, Kitchener, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the age of 99 years. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Donald E.C. McLean (2013). Dear mother of Peter (Mary), Mary Ann (Ian), Hugh (Mary), Ian (Linda). Loved grandmother of Kevin (Melissa), Sarah (Matt), Jennifer (Will), Jocelyn (Luke), Alex and great grandmother of Colin, Izzy, Zoey, Naomi, and Austin. Louise will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Louise was proud of her family and was an inspiration to them. She is dearly missed.
As the daughter of missionary parents, she spent her early years in China, returning to Canada when she was 13 years old. Louise studied occupational therapy at U of Toronto where she met Don who was studying for the ministry at the time. They got married and made a good team in Don’s ministry. She was actively involved in all the churches Don served, singing in the choirs, and running or helping with the UCW and children’s and girls’ groups. In these endeavours as well as in her family life she was a lifelong optimist – her can-do attitude allowed her to overcome many challenges.
Louise started knitting when she was 5 years old and only stopped in the last year. She was rarely seen without her knitting bag and made countless socks, sweaters, quilts and baby blankets over the years.
Louise enjoyed spending summers at the cottage on Moira Lake, where she was always willing to go for a swim. With some help, she even managed to get in for a swim at the age of 97. She will be missed by long time cottage friends.
Many thanks to friends and staff at Winston Park, especially in these last few months.
Cremation has taken place. Louise’s family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial service at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gary Clark officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations would be appreciated to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital or the United Church Mission and Service Fund.
