(1933-2018)
Ron passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at Winston Park on Friday, January 26, at the age of 84. Loving and supportive husband of Cecile for 59 years. Devoted family man and proud father of Steve (Monica), Jim (Liz), Nina Wallace (Gary), Lisa (Dan), Tony (Julie), Andrew and Adrienne (Rob). Cherished grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sister Dianne O’Reilly (2011) and brother Lloyd Hummel (2017). Survived by his sister, Carol (Garner) and brother Tom. Ron was a great provider and dedicated employee. He worked in the office at Uniroyal Tire for most of his career and later transferred to logistics and shipping before retiring after 39 years. Ron was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church for many years including his involvement with the Building and Social Committee, Boy Scouts and bowling league. He was a very good dancer, loved to socialize and had many friends. Ron enjoyed all sports and was athletic. He played football in high school, was an excellent curler, bowler, golfer, played hockey and enjoyed taking his family to the Uniroyal Family Skate Sundays at the Aud. After retiring, Ron was famous for taking long walks around the neighbourhood with his friend, Junior, or grabbing a beer and cigar and listening to the Blue Jays game in the backyard. Dementia may have taken a beautiful mind but Dad’s heart and soul were untouchable – still making us smile until the very end. He instilled in his children a strong sense of humility, work ethic and respect for family and friends. Our family wishes to express our sincere and eternal thanks to the staff and nurses at Winston Park for your loving and compassionate care of our dear Ron over the past 14 years. You are truly our angels on earth. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Ron with his family during visitation on Wednesday, January 31, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900). Prayers at 8:30 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, February 1 at 2 p.m. in the chapel with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Online condolences at www.westmountfuneralchapel.com
