My sympathy to Shirley’s family! 
I worked with Shirley for many years at the Economical.  She was a wonder person.

R.I.P.  Shirley!

So sad to hear this news of Shirley's passing at much too young an age. She was always positive and creative in our work together and she added much to the lives around her. I am glad our paths crossed.  

Shirley was a bright light that lid up any room she was in!  Her smile,  willingness to help, friendly and positive outlook and her zest for life was such a blessing to everyone she had contact with!  
Years ago, I worked with Shirley during a large project at Economical and although she was a work colleague then, she later became a dear friend. She made a difference in many lives, including mine. I am grateful to have known her.  My deepest condolences to her family. May your cherished memories of her bring you peace.

We first met Shirley 27 years ago in Cuba. Through this time we got to know her and enjoyed spending time and doing different things like golfing, going to shows and even some paint parties. She was always a happy person and we feel very privileged to get to know her. The joke was that it was a long way to go to meet someone but we are glad we did and will charish the time we had with her. Her time was cut to short.         All our love for Lois and Gordon Brown

Shirley was determined  and dedicated. She was as resilient  as she was optimistic. She was always concerned about others. Shirley and I shared many hours of together at work and on the cross-country ski trails. Shirley will be missed. 

Shirley was such a wonderful person. A genuine and kind soul.  She was so welcoming and so hardworking.  Her time cut too short. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.  


I will miss seeing Shirley at church.  One of the things I remember about her is that she would often bring snacks to share with everyone during our coffee-hour time.  She would just quietly show up with the snacks and set them up.  

I worked with Shirley for many years at Economical.  She was very dedicated to her work and a very smart lady.  If I was out for a walk in our work neighbourhood and my co-workers were not with me, Shirley would invite me to walk with the Finance group.  One of the last time I saw Shirley at Economical she bought me a coffee in the cafeteria.   This was the kind of person she was, sweet, kind and generous.   Sincere condolences to all of her family and friends.   I will really miss Shirley.  

Shirley will be deeply missed.  She brought fun and excitement to every event.  

Shirley was one of the very best people I've met while working at Economical/Family for the last 16 years.  Her positive and fun-loving spirit and personality are truly memorable.  And she was so smart!  I remember the Economical finance conference in Autumn 2007 well - it was just before the financial crash.  Everyone in the room heard the same information from financial experts from around industry but Shirley saw the big picture.  I will miss Shirley.  My sincerest condolences to her family and friends.   

I worked with Shirley for many years at Economical. She always had a kind word for everyone and would always be there to assist with any task or project.  Her positive attitude, sense of humour, willingness to listen, and providing excellent advice when asked for was always appreciated and made everyone feel at ease with her. My condolences to Shirley’s family.   

I worked in Finance when I first started at Economical and Shirley was always so friendly, welcoming, and willing to lend a hand. Even when I moved buildings and departments, she always had a warm hello if our paths crossed. My condolences. 

I worked with Shirley at Economical for many years. She was very knowledgeable in her financial planning and reporting role and thoroughly enjoyed sharing her financial expertise with others in the organization – she put the fun in finance! Very hard-working, intelligent, and calm are words that come to mind in describing Shirley.  She helped me with my budgets on many occasions. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.


I absolutely loved working with Shirley. Her warm caring approach, sense of humor and the depth of knowledge was without equal. I have very fond memories of working with Shirley and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

I knew Shirley for a short time and yet she left such a strong impression on me. Positively energetic and extremely kind, she brought me and other new people on the tour around our office premises during our first days and made us felt welcome. Last time I met her was when she's a proctor for my CIP exam and I was looking forward to meeting her again this year for the next exam. I'm so sorry to hear her passing.

I was lucky enough to work with Shirley at Economical and she was always a pleasure to deal with. A real professional who put her heart and soul into the job and truly cared about her work and supporting the company and her colleagues. Full of fun, energy and always ready to help others. My sincere condolences.

I had the pleasure of working with Shirley for many years at Economical. She was an amazing person who always had a smile on her face and put everybody before herself.  Unless we had a meeting, somebody was sick or on vacation, we went for a walk at lunch every day around the neighbourhood. Shirley knew all the neighbourhood dogs by name and brought treats for them each day. She always brought everybody together and was so thoughtful. Shirley knew I loved chocolate chip cookies. Anytime I had a meeting during lunch, I would come back to my desk and find a cookie Shirley had left for me. Such a wonderful person and so sad her life was cut short. Shirley will be missed for sure. 

I worked with Shirley at Economical many years ago and remember her as a valued colleague who seemed to always have a positive attitude. She was well respected, knowledgeable and seemed unflappable under the many pressures her role entailed. So sorry to hear about her health struggles over the last few years and wish her peace.  My condolences go out to her many family, friends and colleagues.

To Shirley's family, we offer our heart-felt condolences on the occasion of her passing. Her generosity, kindness, faith and sincerity were clearly evident to all of her friends and associates.  As adjoining neighbours, Shirley would offer her help or assistance whenever we had a back-yard project or a neighbourhood event and she was always good for a weekend happy-hour libation! A caring and energetic young lady, I know she was surrounded by much love during recent times.  During her almost-daily bike-rides, Shirley would bring me home golf balls resulting from errant shots at a nearby golf course!...and she never forgot a birthday! Shirley was always a pleasure to connect with through work, whether it be a passing in the hallway with a friendly smile and hello to exchanging emails.  Sending my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

So very sorry to learn of Shirley's death.  Our paths crossed at Economical Insurance (I worked there as an Admin. Assistant from 1996 - 2007) and occasionally I would contact her with financial business questions.  Shirley was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and always able to provide the answers.

My condolences to Shirley’s family.  Shirley was the best friend/neighbour.  She was so generous and was always there to help.  She had a positive optimism that was contagious. She left a real impact on the Neighbourhood and will be missed immensely.

I was shocked and surprised to hear about Shirley. We worked together since the early 90’s at Economical but had not seen her since I retired five years ago. We had been in contact on LinkedIn and she appeared to have taken her drive, determination and organizing skills to her new role at WLU.  She did an excellent job in her planning role at Economical  in keeping everyone on track and moving forward. You never wanted to get the call that Shirley was on the phone looking for that report that was due.

To Shirley's family, I am so sorry for this loss of your sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She greatly cherished family and friends as you would well know and liked to bring people together, often reiterating the blessings in her life. I am already missing her dearly. She and I had many chatty coffee visits over the recent few years and prior to that, I had the pleasure of working with her for a great many years (both at Economical and at Laurier). Shirley was a bright and caring lady, very giving and organized. And I bet she still is! Please know she holds a special place in my memories and in my heart. 

I also had a long career at Economical and worked with Shirley on several projects over the years. I will always remember her as a respected colleague with a positive spirit, genuine kindness and always willing to lend a hand. Shirley and I also attended the Women's Leadership conferences held at Economical and she was quite the golfer, good or bad she made it a fun time! I was very saddened to her of her passing, and my deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.  

Shirley to me will always be the most memorable individual I've dealt with during my time at Economical due to her energy, spirit, love of her job and the enjoyment she received and gave to all those she interacted with.  She was a sparkling gem of a person who will definitely be missed!  

I worked with Shirley for over 15 years at Economical and have fond memories of her positive and funny attitude even under the toughest deadlines.  Her laughter was heartening and she always looked for the best in people. I’ll always remember our girls weekend in Montreal - her amazement (and sometimes shock) at new things she’d never seen before was wonderful. My condolences to her family. 

I worked with Shirley for many years in Economical in budgeting and planning and she was always so diligent, so organized, so on top of everything.   She always welcomed people with open arms ( and a big org chart!).  My condolences go to her loved ones and she will be missed. 

My deepest sympathy to Shirley's family.  I worked with Shirley at Economical for many many years.  She always conducted herself extremely professional and was eager to provide assistance wherever she could.  A very well liked individual.  I am saddened to hear of her loss at such a young age.  

I had the pleasure of working with Shirley for several years before she left Economical. Her friendliness and positivity never failed to brighten my day. My sincere condolences to the family. 

Shirley worked as a proctor for us in the WLU Accessible Learning Testing Centre. She was always vibrant, positive, and ready to lend a helping hand.
