

Surrounded by her family and friends, Shirley passed after a five-year courage battle with cancer. Shirley was born on November 26, 1963 to Hilda and Ross Becker in Hanover, Ontario. Shirley is survived by her siblings, Barb (Paul) Bester, Dennis Becker and Barb Hayes Smith, Eleanor (Wayne) Dickson, John Becker and Diana Janssen, Florence (Brett Frickey) Becker, Marion (Guy) Roussy. Shirley is also survived by one niece and five nephews and their families.
Shirley really appreciated the love and support she has received from so many great people including her family members, friends, neighbours and ministry team. It was through this great support and love that she found peace during the end of her cancer journey. To these people, she is forever grateful.
Shirley graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1986 at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), followed by her accounting designation, CPA, CMA in 1989. She enjoyed education and went back to WLU in 2005-2009 to complete her Master of Business Administration degree.
Shirley worked for more than 28 years at Economical Insurance in Waterloo. During her time at Economical, she held various positions with the Finance department. She loved her 18 years as the Corporate Planning manager position. She thoroughly enjoyed working with managers and Executives across the organization to achieve the organization’s goals. Following her years at Economical Insurance, Shirley worked at Wilfrid Laurier University, working directly with the students for four years.
Shirley had many hobbies including travel, cross country skiing, reading and attending plays. In addition,
Shirley enjoyed hosting parties for her friends and family in her home.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), from 10 - 11 a.m., with a funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. At the family’s request, all guests must show proof of vaccination.
