Tom was born in Renfrew Scotland brother to Hugh, Mary and Jessie. In 1946 he joined Cunard Lines as Chief Electrical Officer, sailing on the Southampton to New York and Bermuda routes aboard the Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Mauretania. After 5 years of courtship, in 1949 Tom married the love of his life Emma, and in the following years welcomed the arrival of sons Tom and Alan. In 1951 he left Cunard and joined Burroughs Adding Machines and the family purchased their first home in Renton, Dunbartonshire. In 1957 the family emigrated to Canada, settling in Toronto then moving to Peterborough in 1960 where Tom joined Sears. In 1965 Tom was offered an opportunity to move to Kitchener for the opening of the Fairview Mall location. Tom advanced through a number of management positions and in 1984 after 25 years service he took advantage of an early retirement package. Retirement allowed Tom and Emma to travel the world with their sons and grandchildren and enjoy their hobbies of round, square, Ballroom and Scottish Country dancing, as well as active participation in badminton, table tennis, swimming and Tai Chi at the Breithaupt Centre. Tom was an active member of Kiwanis Club Cameron Heights and was honoured to be named Kiwanian of the year 1987-1988 in recognition of his contribution including the Ontario Senior Games. Tom and Emma have two sons Tom (Joanne), and Alan (Debbie) four grandchildren Colin (Joanna), Jennifer (Ryan), Tara (Kevin), Alex (Caitie) and 7 great grandchildren Taylor, Ashley, Alec, Lauren, Annie, Ellen, Isla. Tom and Emma recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary a testament to the depth of their love for one another. “ Lang mae yer lum reek “ we will miss you Dad!! At Tom’s request cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make any donations to a charity of your choice.
