Alexandra arrived at UT Medical Center NICU February 10, 1995, along with her twin sister, Victoria, both weighing 2 & 1/2 pounds each. Her parents would hold vigil for the next 31 years, along with her husband of 9 years, Kory Tomlinson. She became, among many things, a scholar with a dedication to learning, fairness, and ambition. She brought light, warmth, and kindness to the world. After completion of her BA at UT Knoxville as a Chancellor's Scholar, she proceeded to Duke Divinity School to complete her M.Div., then to UT Austin, where she was a Ph.D. ABD student. Her studies took her to Johannesburg, Mozambique, Sydney, Dublin, London, and South Korea.
Alexandra loved her missions trips growing up which included multiple Katrina hurricane efforts, Jamaica, Eleuthera, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. She was in her element standing on rooftops directing groups of volunteers in re-roofing churches and houses. Alexandra served as camp counselor at Camp Dickenson in Fries, Virginia, where she met her husband, and where they would marry on the banks of the New River on May 20, 2017. Alexandra was an avid reader, pottery maven, yoga enthusiast, and Mom to her rescue dog, Olive.
Alexandra suffered a sudden pulmonary embolism and passed away June 3, 2026 in Austin, TX and leaves to grieve her loss her husband, Kory; her twin sister and wife, Dr. Victoria Nelson-Belant and Josette; parents, Adrian and Rochelle Nelson, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dean and Lora Tomlinson of Fries, Virginia; and lots of extended family and many friends. Preceding her in death are grandparents; Charles and Geraldine Frueh and Adrian and Betty Nelson; and uncle, Denny Frueh.
Alexandra was laid to rest at Lynnhurst Cemetery along with her brother, Chas, who died in 1993. A private family service was held to recognize Alexandra and her life. Those who wish to honor Alexandra, may do so by contributing to the Trevor Project at wwww.thetrevorproject.org or Young-Williams Animal Center.
