Allen Kent "Tip" Tipton, age 96, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 15, 2024. Allen was a Western Style Square Dance caller and he, along with his wife, Joann enhanced the lives of many people through dance for 60 plus years. He and his dancers did two halftime performances at Neyland Stadium with the Pride of the Southland Band. Most of all, Allen loved spending time on his back porch with his family and his furry buddy, Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his loving son, Rick, who left this life too early at age 61. Also, by his parents, Oliver and Lonnie Tipton; siblings, Junior (Doris), Bobby Dodd (Sheba) and Mary Lou Tipton.
Allen leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and best friend of 76 years, Joann; son, Ken (Betty) Tipton; daughter, Missy (Larry) Russell; grandchildren, Stephanie Tipton, Tracey (Brian) Strange, Shawn (Alicia) Tipton, Angie (Jason) Patterson; great grandchildren, Madison and Chase Tipton, Taylor and Bennett Patterson, Dillon (Erika) Smith; great- great grandchildren, Bodhi and Dax Smith. They all loved their "Papaw Tip". He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from the Knoxville and Atlanta area.
The family will have a private Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 28th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered at Make a Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
