

Bullen, Barbara Rhodes, age 88, of Powell, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Powell where at an early age she sang in the choir and played the organ for many years. Barbara attended George Peabody College in Nashville and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she received a B.S. in Music Education and a M.S. in Educational Psychology. She was a member of the Knox County, Tennessee and National Education Associations as well as the Knox County Retired Teachers Association, the Music Educational National Congress and two honorary Educational Sororities, Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Lambda Theta. She also taught music for 34 years in the Knox County School System at Powell and Brickey Schools. Barbara was preceded in death by husband Paul J. Bullen, Son, Paul Darrell Bullen, Parents James W. Rhodes and Grace Gill Rhodes, all of Powell, and sisters, Marjorie Faye Bell of Knoxville and Bernice R. Dugger and husband J. Lee of Powell. She is survived by nephew, Joe Steven Bell and wife Annie of Knoxville; niece, Jama D. Moore and husband Charles of LaFollette and great nephew, Joe Bell and wife Tammy and son, Joey of Fort Stewart, GA; special niece and nephew by marriage, Cindy and George Stooksbury; sister-in-law, Winston Evans and husband Jim Evans, several cousins and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 pm, Wednesday, October 8, 2014 with the funeral to follow at 7 pm at Lynnhurst Chapel, 2300 Adair Drive with Pastors Phil Jones and James Waddell officiating. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery at 2pm, Thursday October 9, 2014 for an interment.
