Benita Kay Davis

Benita K. Davis (Caldwell) was tragically taken from us and wrapped into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Friday, September 25, 2026 at the age of 81. Benita was born in Ohio, raised in the Holston Hills area and has resided in Halls, Tennessee. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City but enjoyed attending church with her children and grandchildren. Benita was a beacon of light and all that knew her, loved her. She was a precious soul whose smile will be sorely missed. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends.

Benita had a love of camping, being outdoors (when it was warm) and had fond memories of spending time in the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg. She also loved a good card game with her family.

Benita worked in the financial industry for her career, which started working alongside her mother, Kay, at the University of Tennessee Federal Credit Union. She continued that career at First Choice Community Credit Union where she still worked even at the age of 81. Benita just completed her 30 years of service at First Choice. Her career provided her with lifelong friends that she loved.

Benita was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin B. Underwood and Kathleen R. Underwood; and former husbands, Joe Maxey Caldwell and Roy L. Davis.

Benita is survived by her two children; daughter, Traci L. Hejna (Sean) and son, Greg Caldwell (Lisa); her four grandchildren, Kristin H. Lanz (Austin), Allison F. Johnson (Cody), Lilly Caldwell and Evan Caldwell; and brother, Steve Underwood (Kathi). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Dr. Knoxville, TN 37918, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with a brief graveside service following at Lynnhurst Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Benita with a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee or in honor of her love for all her grandpups to Young Williams Animal Center.
