Calvin "Gene" McGuire

McGuire, Calvin Eugene (Gene) – age 70, of Knoxville, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born March 12, 1946, and graduated from East High School in 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Gene worked in the University of Tennessee Physics Department for 40 years, retiring as the Electronics Shop Supervisor in 2014. He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Peggy Williford McGuire; and parents, Ralph and Betty Lou Kelly McGuire. He is survived by wife, Linda Poland McGuire; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Glen Price of Knoxville, and Jennifer and Matt Price of Maryville; son, Jordan McGuire of Largo, Florida; stepdaughters and husbands, Nancy and Jim Culpepper, and Diane and Chad Turner, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Emma and Will Price, Yvie and Allie Price, Emily Yarnell, Eli Turner; sister, Anita Melia of Seville, Florida; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Larry Turner of Powell; nephew and wife, Charles and Koren Easterday of South Daytona, Florida; nieces and husbands, Shelley and Chris Rogers of Powell, and Wendy and Gabe Thrasher of Knoxville.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., Rev. Maston Jackson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home and proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for a 1 p.m. graveside service. Pallbearers will be Glen Price, Matt Price, Chad Turner, Jim Culpepper, Don Poland, Ron Poland, Larry Turner, Chris Rogers, and Gabe Thrasher.
