Charlotte Ellen Cherry

Charlotte Cherry, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home in West Knoxville on December 6, 2025. She was born on November 1, 1935, in Gresham, South Carolina, and lived a long, beautiful life filled with love, family, and the joy of nature. She was with family at the time she passed and had been surrounded by loved ones throughout her final days.

Charlotte is survived by her loving daughter, Kari Sudman; son, Weldon Patterson (Mary); two sisters, Hazel Adams and Lonita Spivey. She also leaves behind her seven cherished grandchildren, Candice, Robert, Tiffany, Preston, Nicole, Cameron, and Maclain and eleven great‑grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.

Charlotte was predeceased by her son, Robert Glenn “Bobby” Patterson; sister, Louise Smoak; and brother, Stanley Barnhill, all of whom remained dear to her heart.

Charlotte attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, before marrying. She went on to become the secretary to the president of Boston University, a role she served with dedication and professionalism. Charlotte later worked for many years in retail sales while lovingly raising her children, balancing her work life with her deep devotion to her family.

Charlotte loved spending time outdoors. She found deep happiness planting flowers and trees, tending her yard, and creating beauty wherever she went. Charlotte took great joy in watching the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that visited her bird feeders, often sitting by the window or on the porch to enjoy their company. Some of her most treasured moments were spent with her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren—picking blueberries and gathering flowers together in the yard she nurtured with such care.

Charlotte’s gentle spirit, steadfast love of family, and the beauty she cultivated in her life and surroundings will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed.

There will be a private ceremony at a yet‑to‑be‑determined date. The family kindly asks that no flowers or memorial plantings be sent.
