Clarence Cottrell

Clarence McGhee (Bud) Cottrell died January 13, 2025 at the age of 93. Bud grew up in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School where he played trombone in the band. He then served four years in the United State Air Force. Later, graduating from Cooper Business Institute, he served as bookkeeper for several Knoxville firms. A man of faith, he was a member of Central Baptist Church Fountain City where he has served as an ordained deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence K. and Ruby Cottrell. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn; son, Alan (Emmeline) Cottrell; daughter, Phyllis (Jeff) Hodge; grandchildren, Nick (Kara) Hodge, Jordan Hodge (fiancé Will Wright), Alex (Ana) Hodge, Dorian (Brooke) Cottrell, Josh Cottrell (fiancée Haylee Haggard), Delena (Ryan) Webster and Nathan (Claire) Cottrell; seven great grandchildren; a sister, June Meschendorf and her family. The family would like to thank Barbara Standridge for her untiring help during Bud’s illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Central Baptist Church, Fountain City. Friends may visit at their convenience, Wednesday from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918. There will be a graveside service, Thursday at 11:00 am, at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
