Claude Maddox McBee of Knoxville, born on November 16, 1935, died September 11, 2021 at his home following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Flora Maddox and Clarence Taft McBee; sisters, Loretta Ward and Lois McBee; brother, Alfred John McBee; and his faithful wife of 57 years, Sylvia Donahue McBee.
Mr. McBee, a six-year veteran of the Air National Guard, was an affable spirit who never met a stranger and who loved conversation and laughter. He entertained many guests with his humorous reflections, most of which featured his own blunders and gaffes. He was a gifted realtor and salesman, retiring as a regional distributor for the JFG Company. In his retirement, he took pleasure in traveling the open roads with his wife Sylvia, and enjoyed the outdoors: lawn care, water sports, and fishing; chess, family celebrations and holiday gatherings. His grandchildren brought him much happiness through the years.
He is survived by son Dr. Matthew McBee and wife Jody of Windsor, VA; daughter Ann McBee of Knoxville; grandchildren Daniel Byrnes and wife Kat of Manakin-Sabot, VA; Victoria and Elizabeth McBee of Windsor, VA; and great-grandson Caden Daniel Byrnes. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dee Hauther McBee, three nephews and several cousins.
The family expresses gratitude to longtime friend Wade Noble who visited weekly; and to caregiver Angelique Farina. A private family graveside service is planned, officiated by Rev. John E. Pennington, Jr. Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home is in charge. Condolences may be offered at www.berrylynnhurst.com
