David C. Alleman, 80, of Knoxville, Tennessee, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of home. A devoted Christian of the Baptist faith, David lived a life that was a true testament to his unwavering faith, his love for others, and his commitment to serving his community and country.
Born with a servant's heart, David touched countless lives throughout his 80 years. He was a proud 1962 graduate of Central High School and later answered the call to serve his country as a Vietnam Veteran. His love of service continued throughout his life, both in his career and in his ministry to others.
David earned his Registered Nursing degree from Tennessee State University and devoted many years to caring for others through his work as a nurse. His nursing career included service at the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro and St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville. Even after retirement, David remained active, working as a security guard for DeRoyal Industries, Inc.
His dedication to his fellow veterans was especially meaningful. David proudly served as Chaplain of the East Tennessee Honor Guard, offering comfort, prayer, and dignity while honoring those who had faithfully served their nation. His compassionate spirit and reverence for others made a lasting impact on the many families and veterans whose lives he touched.
Growing up in Smyrna, Tennessee, David developed a love for sports and community. He enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball alongside his dear friend, the late Stu Tinney. Through coaching, nursing, military service, ministry, and friendship, David became a source of encouragement and guidance to many. His influence extended far beyond any title or occupation—it was found in the kindness he showed, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
Above all else, David was a man of faith and family. He understood the importance of loving others and living according to the principles of Christ. His life was a reflection of the words found in Matthew 25:23: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Though his family and friends will deeply miss his presence, they find comfort in knowing that his earthly journey has ended and his eternal reward has begun.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David H. Alleman and Lela Alleman; his beloved wife, Betty Alleman; and his son, Tim Alleman.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Tony Alleman and wife Heather; his daughter, Tanya Coker and husband David; his six grandchildren, Brittany Kitts, Briana Blankenbeckler, Matthew Alleman, Shea Phillips, Christopher Alleman, and Brooke Johnston; seven great-grandchildren; and his beloved daughter-in-law, Tonya Alleman, wife of his late son Tim, who remained a cherished and treasured member of the family. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, fellow veterans, and all those whose lives were blessed by knowing him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and medical professionals of UT Medical Center, Wellpark, Amedisys In-Home Care, and Gentiva Hospice Care for the compassion, kindness, and care shown to David and his family.
A visitation will be held at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 West Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918, US, on September 4, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm., with a funeral service at 2:00 pm, followed by a graveside service with Honors. Pastor Matt Caldwell will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the East Tennessee Honor Guard, an organization that held a special place in his heart and reflected his lifelong dedication to honoring those who served.
David's legacy will live on in the lives of his family, friends, fellow veterans, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. While we grieve the loss of a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, nurse, coach, chaplain, and friend, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
