David Lee Mays, of Fayetteville, GA formerly of Knoxville, TN passed away October 14, 2018. David was born January 25, 1954 to Bruce and Betty (Holland) Mays. He was a member of Lonsdale Methodist Church and attended Harps Baptist Church, Fayetteville, GA. David was a 1972 Central High School graduate and attended the University of Tennessee. He began a career in construction on the First Tennessee Bank building and worked his way up to become a superintendent for Skanska USA from which he retired in 2016. He took great joy in the projects he completed to include the St. Louis Union Station, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, Gamecock Training Pavilion at The University of South Carolina, The Virginia Tech Student Center at Blacksburg, VA and numerous administrative structures at other universities across the southeast, David was preceded in death by son, Chris Mays in July of 2017. David is survived by wife, Jodi Mays of Fayetteville, GA, Bryan Mays (Danielle) of Knoxville, Jeffrey Mays (Beth) and Michael Mays (Kayla) of Fayetteville, GA; parents, Bruce and Betty Mays; brothers, Steve Mays (Sharon) of Powell, TN, Gary Mays (Susan) of Franklin, TN; sisters, Paula Dunlap of Knoxville, TN, Sandy Woodford (Tim) of St. Charles, MO; sister in law, Sheila Watson (Dennis) of Fayetteville, GA; nieces, Marilyn, Megan, Rose, Stephanie, Nancy, and Hannah Gage (Mike) along with many cousins, aunts, and uncles. Left to mourn his passing are grandchildren, Brandon, Jake, and Caitlyn. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kayla for her dedication to David, to Southern Grace Hospice for their special care, and specifically to Melissa for her tender end of life care for David and his family. Family and friends will meet Saturday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for the 1 pm inurnment service. Rev. Walter Cross will officiate.
