Demetrios "Jim" Regas, age 81, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. He was born March 16, 1941 in Alepohori, Sparti, Greece and then moved to the U.S. in the early seventies with his wife, Demetra, to start their life and family together. Jim's life was dedicated to serving others. He owned and operated The Original Louis Drive-In Restaurant for over 30 years where he met and served many lifelong friends. Jim's greatest joy in life was spending time with his beloved wife, daughters and granddaughters. He enjoyed travelling, fishing, hunting and cooking. Jim's caring spirit and kindness was shown to all he knew and will continue on through his legacy. He was a devoted member of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Demetra Regas. He is survived by daughters, Vickie (Greg) Smith and Joanna Regas; grandchildren, Brandon, Madison, and Audrianna Smith; sister, Despina Malliou; brother, Athanasios (Lena) Regas; brother-in-law, John (Mary) Kouvelis; followed by several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 1st from 11:30am-1pm at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37919. The funeral service will follow at 1pm. Father Anthony Stratis, Father Dionysis Lampropoulos and Deacon Mark Smith will officiate. Interment following the service at Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund in memory of Demetrios "Jim" Regas. May his memory be eternal.
