Doris Estelle Hux Rogers, joined her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her family in heaven on March 17, 2021. Doris always made the best of every situation. Her zest for life was evident as she had the best/silliest parties and was always ready to “put on a show” for her friends. Doris was the life of the party. She never passed up an opportunity to dance. Doris could dance anytime and anywhere!
Her love of music was the overreaching theme in her life. Doris was a member of the Sweet Adeline barbershop choir (she sang Bass). She often played piano at her church and sang in the choir. Doris loved to travel as well – she even went to China and ate snake! She loved going on cruises and getting dressed up for the dinners.
Doris was a devout Christian and was always an active member of the Baptist Church, often teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, playing piano/organ, or helping in the nursery.
Doris worked most of her career as a Medical Transcriptionist. She retired from Martin Marietta/Union Carbide/X-10 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Doris then went on to be a Medical Transcriptionist entrepreneur. While working for herself, she generously gave of her time to help many young women learn how to do Medical Transcribing enabling them to work for themselves. Doris had a passion for helping people help themselves.
Doris was pre-deceased by her mother and step-father, Stella and Fred Hightower; her beloved grandmother and grandfather, Belle and John Knight; her husbands, Paul Oaks, Otis W. Marshall, Jr. and James Rogers: grandson, Brandon Oaks. Survivors include: her 4 children, Gary Oaks, Connie Church, BJ Oaks, and Fred Oaks; 2 grandchildren; and her dear long-time friend, June Woods.
The family will be receiving friends Monday March 22, 2021 from 5-7 pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home.
