

Douglas F. Shoffner of Knoxville TN, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday November 5th 2016 at his home with his family by his side, after battling cancer. He was a member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam and tours in Germany. He and Glenda Shoffner started D.F. Shoffner Mechanical Contractors in 1970 from their home and over the years grew the company to over 450 employees. He served on the board of TAPHCC for many years and served as President. D.F. Shoffner Mechanical Contractors was awarded contractor of the year in 1989. He started DFS Management Company, Inc. and DFS Properties L.P. in 2001. He enjoyed working, playing hard, always ready for the next adventure and was a world traveler. Doug is survived by and will be forever missed by his daughter Kimberly Shoffner Walters and her fiancé Stephen McKinney, his son Michael D. Shoffner, their mother Glenda Shoffner, his grandchildren Phil V. Walters, III and Hillary Walters, Michael D. Shoffner II and Austin E. Shoffner; his special friends, Anne Hall, and as he introduced her “The New Wife” Bea Colway and many cousins, neighbors, employees and past employees. He is preceded by his mother Wanda Bridges Shoffner Dunlap and his step father James Kyle Dunlap, his father Freeman F. Shoffner and his step mother Evelyn Shoffner. The family would like to say a special thanks to: Dr. Wesley White and his staff at University Urology, Dr. David Aljadir and his staff at University Cancer Specialists, Dr. Vaughn Dill and his staff at University Radiation, and Dr. Cynthia Pearman and her staff at University Palliative and Hospice Group for the wonderful care and compassion Doug received. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with family friend, Reverend John Gargis officiating. Family and friends will meet Thursday November 10th 2016 at 10:45 for an 11:00 a.m. interment service at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
