

Edith K. Lovelace Wiles passed away, Wednesday, January 11, 2012. She was a direct descendant of Jacob Lones, Sr., who settled in Tennessee prior to statehood, June 1, 1796. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Wiles, brother Ralph Eugene Lovelace, parents, John Ross Lovelace and Elizabeth Rebecca Seiber, and grandparents William Lovelace, Julia C. Spangler, Benjamin Franklin Seiber, and Mary Ann Lones.
Survivors include sister Margaret (Margo) Lovelace Campbell; niece Rebecca Anne (Becky) Campbell Smeltzer and husband William Harvey Smeltzer and their children Elizabeth Anne Smeltzer, Grand Cayman, Jonathan Harvey Smeltzer and wife Kari of Christiansburg, VA, and Rebekah Kaye Smeltzer of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Fredda McDaniel Lovelace and her children: Hospice Chaplain Reverend R. Gene Lovelace and wife Cindy, of Nashville, and his children Daniel Ross Lovelace and wife Rachael and Diana Jean Curtis and husband Reverend Mark Curtis; Reverend John Daniel Lovelace and wife Marla and their children Joshua Aaron Lovelace and wife Whitney and Hope Danielle Allen and husband Jordan; sister-in-law, Pearl Wiles Doyle; great-great nieces, Meredith and Mallory Lovelace; great-great nephew Daniel Curtis.
Edith graduated from Knoxville High School and the University of Tennessee and taught high school at Oakdale, Halls, and Central, where she was the Advanced Placement English teacher and Senior Sponsor for many years. She and her husband joined Arlington Baptist Church in 1953 where they served faithfully and she taught Sunday School. She was a former member of Fontinalis, Fountain City Study Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She also edited books for several local authors.
A celebration of life will be conducted by Hospice Chaplain Reverend R. Gene Lovelace and Reverend John Daniel Lovelace at the Lynnhurst/Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, on Saturday, January 21st, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Elmcroft of Halls, Holston Health & Rehabilitation Center, and Caris Healthcare for their compassion. Because of Edith’s love for young people, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arlington Youth Ministry of Arlington Baptist Church, 1928 Fairmont Blvd., Knoxville, TN 37917.
