George Charles Schlegel

Schlegel, George C. was called home to be with his Savior on March 3, 2013.He was born in Chicago, IL on October 29, 1918. George was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Preceded in death by wife, Reba M. Schlegel; parents, Nicholas and Agnes Schlegel and brothers, Ray, Tom, and Bill Schlegel. George graduated from St. Mary’s College in Minnesota. He worked in Hawaii where he married the love of his life, Reba. He worked two years in Panama and then moved to Washington, D.C. where he was over personnel in the Pentagon. After retiring they moved to Fairfield Glade, TN where he volunteered as a fireman and was awarded fireman of the year in 1989.

Survived by brother, Bob Schlegel; sister-in-law, Jayne Schlegel and Peggy Emmett and husband, Tom; nieces, Marie Vinoski and husband John, Susan Hassfurder and husband Mike and several other nieces and nephews. Our special thanks to Beverly Park Place for the loving care they gave and also to Amedisys Hospice. Very special friend Tessa Sherwood whom he loved dearly, also, Letha Lehman and Sue Shafer for the prayers and special attention they gave and so many more that were a special blessing.

The Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Saturday, March 9 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father John Orr officiating. Following the Funeral Mass, family and friends will meet 12 noon Saturday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for and inurnment service. Arrangements by Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 W.
