George Walker, age 75, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025. He was a graduate of Fulton High School, a veteran of the United States Army, and a man who loved his family deeply. George was born on September 27, 1949, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to James and Margaret Walker. After high school, he went to work for the University of Tennessee, where he remained until his retirement. He attended East Sunnyview Baptist Church.
George was a quiet man—unassuming until his last breath. He had a true knack for solving problems. If your A/C went out, you called George. If your appliances were on the fritz, he was your guy. His son-in-law became the fortunate recipient of decades worth of situational knowledge—light fixture fires, plumbing reroutes, and everything in between. There truly wasn’t a problem George couldn’t solve. He was a thinker, and he’d ponder a challenge until he could at least offer a solid suggestion.
George was the foundation of our family; he loved us fiercely. He showed up for us in his steady presence day after day. From porch chats with the kids to Sunday lunches at his sister’s house, he was happiest with his people around him. The bedrock of that foundation, though, was his wife of 55 years. They met as kids in church, and he knew a good thing when he saw it. He married her at 21 and never looked back. If you could find a picture of him with his grandson, Kai, his smile would tell the rest of the story. That kid came along and lit up his world. George was a family man, and we are so, so grateful.
George is preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Walker, brother Jack Walker, and his grandson, Cade Stowers. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Melissa Stowers (Clint); grandson, Kai; sisters, Judy Leeper (Jimmy), Margaret Leeper, and Dorothy Summey; and nephews, Michael Leeper (Carrie), Randy Leeper, and Brandon Leeper (Rachel).
The family welcomes friends for a Visitation on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 5pm-6:30pm, at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 6:30pm.
