

She was born in Middlesboro, KY and moved to Knoxville, TN at age16, where she spent most of her life. She graduated from Knoxville High School and shortly thereafter married her husband of 57 years, Raymond Woods, DDS. Her husband served in the Navy during WWII and following the war, entered college on the GI Bill and pursued a career in dentistry. During his dental school, she worked as an executive assistant; thereafter she concentrated on homemaking. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and fishing long hours with her husband at Fontana Lake where they had a houseboat and later in Donalsonville, GA at Lake Seminole where they had a fishing trailer. They also loved bowling and trips following the UT Vols. Affectionately known as Mimi, she drew great joy from her role as a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Following her husband’s death in¬ 1997, she moved to Memphis, TN and then to southern AL to be near family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Flora and M.O. Brooks, her husband, Raymond, her brother, Eugene Brooks and his wife, Keeble and niece, Twila Lowe.
Survivors include daughters, Janice Yusk MD (Ted Hodge) and Jeanne Baxter (Jim), her grandchildren, Cyndi Long, Angie Brasfield (Kevin), John Yusk, Lisa Bowker (Matt) and great grandchildren, Bryce Long, Alex, David, and Stella Yusk, and Ella and Miles Bowker and niece, Gwen McCarter.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 6th at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN from 2-4 pm with services immediately following. Burial to follow in Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Bay Food Bank, 12851 Perdido St., Lillian, AL, 36549 in her memory.
