Remembering Melvin as an outstanding student at old Knoxville High School when we were classmates.  My sympathy to all his family.

We were very saddened to hear about Melvin's passing.  He was always our hockey game buddy!  Our heart goes out to Betty and the rest of the family at this sad time.  Our loss is Heaven's gain!

Melvin, my "foster father".  You had such a sweet spirit and a gentle way.  You and Betty are the only ones, other than my blood relatives, who always had the authority to give me a "whoopin'"  Though the years have separated us, my thoughts and memories always bring me back to that little house on Whittle Springs Road, where I spent so many happy times, where a young man could find a friend to listen, a shoulder to cry on, good advice, and "dollar pancakes" to feed a hungry boy.  Gordon, I never had a father growing up, I hope you didn't mind me using yours.  I will carry "Herbie" with me all of my days.  Herbie was one of the good ones.  God bless and keep you, Betty.
