Mr. Bush was one of the best things about Gresham.  I always looked forward to his class.  He made us feel valued and he really made English fun.   My condolences to your family.  He was a wonderful man.

Kenneth Jeffrey Jonathan.I just recieved the sad news yesterday.I would like to extend my deepest sympathy for your loss. I know there are not enough words to ease your suffering. I was blessed to have been first a friend and of course a brotherinlaw. He will live forever in my heart and my memory as will all of you. May God bless each of you.

My sincere condolences to the family.  I so enjoyed working with Jerry while I was with Knox County Schools and he was at Powell Middle.  He was always a strong proponent for students and for his staff, and I very much respected him.

Dear Jerry, you recently lost your dear sister Donna, then tragically your beloved Mother Estine followed in death a few months later, and now you have joined them in Heaven. As your Uncle I have known you to be very good man. The loving management of your two sons during some trying times has prepared them for the joy of success and the ability to overcome life's trials. They were fortunate to have had you as a strong anchor during their early years. The good relationship you maintained with their mother was admirable. It contributed in a positive way to your sons. As you move on to higher things don't worry about your sons. They will survive and carry on your legacy.
Your quick wit, hardy laugh, and easy smile will be missed by all of us still on this bus of life. See you later "Hunch".

I first remember Mr. Bush with "Circus of the Kids" at Powell Middle School.  My mom, Anne Akers, was the ISS teacher there and worked very closely with him during school and with "Circus of the Kids." She always spoke so highly of him.....respect, dedication, and caring for the kids. 

When I began working at Powell 18 years ago, I saw exactly why she thought the way she did. He was indeed a true mentor for me, along with Mr. Duff. The "Tom and Jerry" life at Powell was great. The kids were not only taught "book knowledege," but the highest level of respect for others as well as yourself.

Mr. Bush is the man who told me to go to graduate school and work on my master's degree in Administration and Supervision. I did just that and graduated in 05. He also taught me one important nugget of information about kids...... listen to them. They will tell you things that they would never tell anyone else but they will also eventually tell you the truth.... just give them enough time and be patient.... but always listen. 

One of the smartest men I have ever known in my entire life....... he will be missed but never forgotten. His "Bushism's" will be in the education world for many years to come.

Thoughts and prayers to all family and friends of Mr. Bush.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't remember a "Bush-ism" that applies to some situation I am dealing with at school.  Jerry was not only one of my administrators and my mentor, but he was a good friend.  He always had my back!  I could talk to him about anything, even if I didn't like a policy.  I could voice it, then he would pause while formulating his response and then share with me a practical way to deal with it. I am blessed to have known Jerry and to be intertwined with the family through church.  I am so glad this is not the end, but that I will get to see Jerry in Heaven! Thank you for sharing your life with me!

Jerry was probably the first little boy I ever loved.   He was my nephew, 10 years younger than me and he'd do anything on earth to make me happy.  He
was always......always.....funny, even during the hard times when family illness and sadness left us shaken.   I could talk with him and he'd understand things that no one else seemed to.   He had a beautiful soul.....Heaven is now blessed with his presence.   I'll miss you, "Mr. Hunch"., and I'll  love you forever.    Gloria

I'm so very sorry for your loss.  The world was a better place knowing that Jerry was in it.  I had the greatest honor in the world to work for such a wonderful, caring man. He was one of the first assistant principals that I had the honor of being a secretary for, I still remember him telling me to get his coffee (half and half) and start calling students, he was ready to work.  I will always remember him and know he and Tom Duff are up there having a great time again.  Our loss is Heaven's gain.  Remember he will always be watching over you and he will listen when you talk. My prayers are with you all.

Jerry was a person whom I have always admired greatly.  He was the sharp-sighted but always loving and good natured voice of humor at family gatherings.  We all miss you Jerry and are so grateful for the special times we have shared. Now you are making music and magic in heaven!

Every Christmas our family would travel from wherever my dad was sationed (US Navy) to spend a few days with relatives in Knoxville. This happened every year from the time I was too small to remember up thru my teenage years. We always spent a day or two at Kenneth's and Estine's house. On every occasion I can remember me and my sister Sheridan asking mom and dad if Jerry was gonna be there.
Why? Because with Jerry there we knew it would be fun. He had a way of breaking up the monotony of 'adult speak' which myself and Sheridan would dred so much.
(relatives, coffee, politics, who's sick....and on and on)
Jerry was one 'cool cat' who always made the most wonderful time of year even better.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Kenneth, Jonathan, Jeffery and Martha.......and my mom who has always held Jerry especially close to her heart.

I never met Jerry, but I knew one of his children; and if kids are still made in the image of their parents, I can only assume that Jerry was a remarkable man, and one close to God's own heart.  My prayers are with the family and friends.  Memory eternal!

There are many things I remember about Mr.Bush. There is only enough time and space to list a few.  He was my homeroom teacher, English teacher,  tennis coach and National Honor Society sponsor  at AE.  He was the  assistant principal when I first started teaching at Spring Hill Middle and I had the experience of teaching his son,Jeffrey, in middle school.  He made all the experiences pleasant ones with lots of great memories.  We even ended up being neighbors.  I am blessed for knowing him.  He indeed played an important part in the successes of my life.  I pray that his family knows that since he was a believer, the best is yet to come.  May the Peace of God comfort you.

A great and fun teacher and will b missed

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Bush.  He was one of the best teacher that I had.  Then my daughter went to PMS while he was there also.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I admired and respected Mr. Bush. I was at Powell when he was there and always met every student with a smile. I will NEVER forget him taking me in his office because I was crying about something one day. He looked at me and said, " Do you know what word is in principal? PAL. I'll always be in this office if you need me,". I am 25 and that has always been with me. Much love and sympathy to the family.

So Sorry for the loss of your Dad. He was a Great Teacher and Boss. I have Great memories of Working together at PMS.

My heart is broken. I cannot imagine the rest of my life without you. You taught me every important thing that I have ever known-you taught me how to love a woman, how to love a man, and how to love a child. You gave me a gift with inexhaustible dividends and immeasurable comfort-the gift of music. The love you taught me gave me a life; the music you gave me provided that life with a soundtrack.
To teach two children to live and to love would have been enough, but you spent your life touching the lives of thousands of children. I cannot go anywhere in Knoxville where somebody in the room does not know "Mr. Bush." Of the literally hundreds of former students of yours that I have met, I have yet to find ONE with anything but good things to say about Mr. Bush. I cannot begin to express the pride that I have in being Mr. Bush's son. Your legacy to this community is large.
Willow will probably never remember meeting you, but your mark on her life will be no less indelible for your absence. She will know you because the love I have for her is the love you have for me. She will be a shining light lit by a flame you kindled in me on May 26, 1975.
Although my heart is broken, I rejoice that you are with your momma, your sister, and our Lord and Savior. Go rest high on that mountain, Daddy.

To all Jerry's family and friends especially his sons who he loved more than life always, my heart breaks with yours and you are in my prayers.. Jerry was like no other man on this earth. He was the one person I always knew would give it to me straight and would be there to catch me when I fell if I just asked.He taught me to never stop fighting for my kids no matter the odds and to laugh at myself often. I will miss our talks sir and you will always be in my heart.

Jerry was a very smart administrator in the school system and a huge amount of fun.  We am so sorry to learn of his passing.  We thought a lot of him.  He made a difference in education.

Mr. Bush was at Powell Middle School when all 3 of my children attended there.He was very much respected and always showed concern for the students.  I got to know him through working with the PTA and substitute teaching and I always enjoyed his humor.  He will be fondly remembered. May God bless his family.

Jeffrey and Jonathan, I'm so sorry about your dad.  Although I hadn't seen him in years, I remember him when he first started teaching school (way before he was an asst. principal) and played in a band, boy he sure could sing!  I know he loved you both and wanted only the best for you.  You are both in my prayers during this sad time of your lifes.  Remember, your mom will always be there for you.  Please hug your mom's neck for me.

Mr. Bush was one of my favorite teachers at Fulton back in the 70's. I am so sorry for your loss, he was a great inspiration to all who knew him.
