

Sanders, Jr., Major John Edward, -age 85 of Knoxville, born August 11, 1925 in Apalachicola, Florida, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Friday, May 20, 2011. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church since 1966. He retired from the Social Security Administration and served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War as a pilot retiring as a Major. He taught ROTC students at his alma mater Purdue University. He loved yard work, playing tennis, ballroom dancing, big band music and animals. Preceded in death by parents John Edward Sr. and Idell Sanders; brothers, Ernest and Maxwell Stork. Survived by wife of 57 years, Rose Butler Sanders; children and spouses, John Edward III, Mark Allen and Debra Sanders, Kathyrn Elaine and Denis Mark Hastings, Gregory Michael and Diane Sanders; grandchildren, Karli, Keri, Kamron Sanders, Kelly, Stephen and Nathan Hastings, and Frank Bealer; 3 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. Special friends John and Barbara Lonas, Earl and Nancy Mays, Dr. Robert and Ann Wallace, Nancy Davenport, special neighbor and friend, Liz Bliss. Service will be on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Eastminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Sean White officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm prior to the service. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Lynnhurst Cemetery for the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Youth Fund, 4904 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37914.
