Marcia & Family, It is w/ Heartfelt Sympathies ,I am sorry for your loss.
It has been a long Journey, for you & John and the Family. But it's like a Love Story of sorts.W/so many ups & downs.Joy & Sorrow. But this was Gods plan, and He was the director, thus it all played out His way.But it still has a Happy ending,in that you & all of his loved ones, friends,Bros,& Sisters in Christ will see him again ,for a great reunion, unlike any ever..
I am so happy that I was able to know John for a brief time& counted it a Blessing to hear him Preach & hear his Testimony. His will to live was strong, it was a blessing from the Lord.I can say I believe he will have many Stars in his Crown.
And the yrs you shared were worth a life time of great Memories.
may he rest in peace.
Much Love to you & the Family
God Bless

Marcie,
May God and the prayers and support from your church, who loved John and you also very much, give you strength to move forward. What a testimony He left for us to follow. He is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father and "no more pain."

We were saddened to hear of the loss of a dear brother in Christ. The Christian world has lost a great warrior. But we "sorrow not, even as others which have no hope," for Christ has given Bro John victory over death.

We will never forget our two kids riding the Slater van to Emmanuel Christian School for several years! Then there was the yard work our son and I did.
Bro John believed in the work ethic, and so he and the kids undertook a paper route. They delivered the Chronicle-Tribune in the early morning hours before school through rain, sleet, or snow! They were one of the most dependable carriers we ever had.

We looked forward to the times Bro John got to preach. He had such a heart for the lost and missions. His ability to quote scripture was inspiring. His battle with cancer did not deter his witnessing for Christ. We marveled how God used him in a great way through it.

We will miss him, but are thankful God shared him with us for a few years.

There were a few home-away-from-homes throughout my childhood where I felt like I was one of the family....John's was one of them in Sweetser, IN. So many sleepovers, rides to school, summers and other memories come flooding back and they all seem to surround a central thought - He LOVED his children and their friends. Loved through discipline, loved through hugs, loved through sacrifice and I was impacted by that love. I'm so thankful I was able to see his example in my life and raise my children with love like that. Thanks John...and to his children, I love you all and am praying for you.

My sister and I spent many years carpooling back and forth to Emmanuel Christian School with John's family. I also had the opportunity to help do yard work at their home in Sweetser with my dad for a couple of years. John's love for Jesus, his church family, and those in the world that he interacted with had a rich love and respect. It's with great joy that I celebrate knowing that he is pain free right now in Heaven. I'm deeply thankful for the years that I had to be around John and to see his Love for Christ encourage others and I know it's impacted my life in ways I'm just now realizing. Praying that John's extended family and immediate family will feel the presence of God's grace and love over them during this time of loss.

John will always hold a special place in the life of The Rhoades' family. He spent many hours with us in pre-marital counseling helping us to make sure that each of us was "The One" for each other. He performed our ceremony and has been a wonderful friend until the day he Graduated. He will be sorely missed by our family and the void will never be filled. Our loss was definitely Heaven's gain. Looking forward to our reunion some day.
With much love,

I will always remember the first time John and I spoke. He and Marcia had come into our Sunday School class, and although he was the visitor, upon learning that I was going through a difficult time, he spoke such words of kindness and compassion to me. His love for Jesus was so evident, a light that shone through.
