Horne, Joseph Samuel “Sammy J.” age 75 of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 8, 2013. He graduated from East High School in 1956 where he was a standout point guard on the Basketball team. A veteran of the United States Army. He had a life career as a salesman, Sammy was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Whittle Springs Golf Club. Sammy was loved many. He was the son of the late Jennings Shafter and Gussie Elizabeth Horne. Preceded in death by sisters Gay Nell Shannon, Carolyn Perano, step daughter Sandy Bowles Kidd. Survivors include Son Greg Horne, step son Rocky A. Bowles , his mother Betty J. Horne; grandson Chris Bowles great grandson Caleb Bowles, Niece Dolly Shannon Black, Nephews Jimmy and Ronald Perano, and a host of great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8pm in the Lynnhurst/Greenwood Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 8pm with Lynn Brewer officiating.
