

Kenneth Ted Lay was born on October 31st, 1925 in Knoxville, TN. He passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2021, at age 95. He loved his large family and lived a very happy, full, long life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Morgan Lay and Charlie McMahan Lay, and his sister, Kathleen Lay Tipton. He is survived by his six children, Judy Talley, Ken Lay (Gaye), Brenda Smith (Ron), Peggy Sliger, Donna Sumner (Steve), and Sheree Daley (Scott); 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 2 step daughters, 5 nieces, and 1 nephew.
Ted was a World War II veteran. He served in Europe in the Army and Army Air Forces. After the war, he joined the family business, Lay Packing Company. He retired as President, in 1990. His passion was grazing cattle on his farm in Knox County. His favorite hobbies were boating, fishing, and hunting.
He was a member of Washington Pike Methodist Church for 82 years. The last five years, he attended Washington Presbyterian Church with his special friends, Melba and Mark Cole. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to Washington Presbyterian Building Fund, 7405 Washington Pike, P.O. Box 152, Corryton, TN 37721.
A Call of Convenience will be held Wednesday, March 10th, from 3-5:00 pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 11th at 3:00 pm at Lynnhurst Cemetery, meeting at the graveside at 2:45 pm with interment to follow.
