

Leoncio “Leon” Melo Mendoza, age 97, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2016 at home in Knoxville, TN. Leon was born to Simon Mendoza and Anastacia Melo on September 12, 1919 in Candelaria, Quezon, Philippines.
He was a proud veteran having supported the guerilla and the United States efforts in the Philippines during WWII. He was a businessman most of his life. He founded several vocational schools teaching tailoring, dress making and photography. He also founded a secondary school which he later sold and is still currently in operation. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by his current wife, Julia Bas; his previous wife, Juana Mendoza and their six children: Angie (Jim Gain), Eric (Tess), Aida (Albert Manuel), Rey (Liza), Men (Lorina), Jasmin (Mun Lee); two other children from a previous marriage: Al and Zeny; 35 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 8th from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 9th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, with Bishop Jon Clark, officiating. Entombment will follow in Lynnhurst Cemetery.
