

Linda Henderlight Hackney, born May 25, 1943, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 18, 2023 after an extended illness. Linda was born and raised in South Knoxville and graduated in 1961 from South High School. In 1964, Linda married Charles Hackney and moved to Fountain City where she was a resident for over 50 years. Linda worked in the cafeteria at Fountain City Elementary School for over 30 years. She was a longtime member of Fountain City Church and most recently a faithful member of Callahan Road Baptist Church. Linda cherished the opportunities to cook and entertain for her family and friends. She loved the outdoors, working in her flower garden and feeding birds. Alongside her daughter Karen, she was an avid traveler and had a smile that would light up any room.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Iva Henderlight; her husband, Charles Hackney, Jr; brothers, Billy and Norton Henderlight and great-nephew, John Thomas Greer. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hackney James and husband, Scott; niece, Tina Greer and husband, Jack; great nephews and great nieces, Jackson, Anna Claire, Anna Kate, Dylan, Chase, Alivia, Sophie, JT and Elijah; niece, Kristi Webber; niece, Kim Yancey (Bridger); great nieces and nephew, Isabella, Olivia, Gibson; nephew, Troy Henderlight and wife, Angela; great niece, Chasity Bunch (Matthew) and great nephew, Noah; sisters-in-law, Verdie Henderlight and Alice Henderlight Davis; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, George & Lena Hackney; niece, Tonie Martin (David); special cousin, Jeanette Bush; longtime neighbor and special friend, Carolyn Zachary.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Pointe at LifeSpring for the love and care provided. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 5 - 7 pm, with the funeral to immediately follow at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Dr, Knoxville, TN 37918. Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920, Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 11 am. Honorary Pallbearers will be the South High School Class of 1961.
