

Martha Irene Arnold-Charnay of Halls Crossroads passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Martha was born December 19, 1941, and grew up in Halls where she was a Halls High School Graduate and a member of Salem Baptist Church. She left Halls and had a career in property development for several years.
In 1966 She moved to Los Angeles, California and became Executive Vice-President and Corporate Secretary for Four Star International, Inc.
Upon retirement Martha moved back to Halls where she devoted her time and energy to serving the community. She served on many Boards such as Boys and Girls Club, Halls Alumni, Halls Business and Professional Association, James White’s Fort, and she also belonged to the Bonnie Kate Chapter of DAR. In 2005 Martha founded the Halls Crossroads Women’s League to encourage women to take an active role in the community.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband, David B. Charnay; step-son, John; step-daughter, Joyce; mother, Meryl Arnold; father, Milburn Arnold; brothers, Kyle, Berle Lois, Clyde; and sister, Mary Wolfenbarger.
She is survived by sisters, Milba Cummings, Becky Elrod, and Esta Arnold; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Family and friends will meet Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a Memorial Service at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair, Knoxville TN 37918. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you consider donating to HCWL at P.O. Box 70785, Knoxville, TN 37938 to honor Martha’s tireless work in the community.
