Marvin was a good man. He was a good friend. He always used to say hey to me when he saw me. He will be missed.

Words can't express how much you are missed at this moment. You are by far the greatest man I  have ever seen and I am and always have been proud to be your son.  You have taught me everything it takes to be a man. And if when my life ends if i'm half the man you are then I will be even more proud to be your son. They say that you will always be with me in spirit and in my heart and in my memories but that doesn't make it any easier today as I set here missing you with all my heart. Thank you for everything you taught me in life and for walking thru that orphanage door and seeing me. Thank you for picking me to be your son. You and mom were the best parents I could have ever asked for. Give mom a hug for me and watch over me. I will never stop loving you and thinking about you everyday. You will both always be with me anywhere I go. I know this isn't good bye it's see you someday soon. I love you both with all my heart. Till we meet again

Uncle Marvin sure will be missed. There was no sweeter soul than his. He loved everyone and everyone who met him loved him. He had a true heart of Gold! I have enjoyed the past two and a half years with him next door with mom and dad! Not a day went by without seeing him and talking to him! I have enjoyed our Dollywood trips and our beach trip.  Uncle Marvin keep a watch over dad as he is definitely going to be lost without you. We love you uncle Marvin! It's not goodbye, it's see you later. 

As a child I remember the trips to visit my uncle and aunt in Texas In the summer and swimming in the big pool..  Then the trips to the beach where he would always  take us to the Air Force Base to go bowling.   There was always food and more to spare as he  loved  to cook when people come.    I consider it an honor to have him and Katie come live with us for a year and a half in our home.   To be able to take care of them and spent time with them was a pleasure  to be able to give back to him what he has given to us all these years.   Myself and my children all have  fond memories of uncle Marvin and aunt Katie as they went out of their way also to take care of them and make sure they were comfortable and happy.   We had good time sitting around and laughing.   Memories we will have for  a lifetime.   Uncle Marvin‘s work is done here on earth , now let’s take what he has taught us and pass it out.  

Grandpa, it's still very hard to believe that your heart of gold is no longer beating in this world. There are so many things you taught me: forgiveness and love being two things I will never forget. I will never understand some of the hardships you faced in life. All I can hope is that I face my life the same way you faced yours. Always pushing forward, always showing love and patience and never allowing fear to stop me. I hope I can pass what you have taught me on to my children. Until we meet again pop, I love you. Keep us safe. Give grandma a hug for me.

Abraham Lincoln said "Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."  "Big Bubby" was the absolute real thing.  When I recall my earliest memories of him hugging me, I can still feel the scruff of his facial hair scratching my face.  I can hear the passion he carried in his soul through his voice.  If you knew him, you've heard it too.  "Big Bubby" was authentic & genuine.  Marvin was brave & full of compassion.  He cared for people.  He loved people.   He gave everything of himself, including nearly losing his life.  He was a giant of a man.  His character was impeccable & as solid as the tree Lincoln talks about, leaving his reputation as a huge shadow.  Marvin's shadow touched my life.  Marvin lived as an example of how to live, by being generous, by sticking to a moral code no matter how difficult life becomes.  I will probably never truly realize the impact Marvin had on my life.  As I look back, I am overwhelmed with love, respect, & gratitude for the man I called "Uncle Big Bubby".  He technically was not my uncle by definition, but he was the person I chose to be my uncle.  I loved visiting the beach to see "Big Bubby" & Katie.  When they would visit Bristol, it was almost an unofficial holiday celebrating Marvin & Katie had come to see everyone.  I remember that nearly every encounter I ever had with "Big Bubby" brought joy to my life.   You never know how long of a shadow you cast on others or who that shadow will impact.  I am a better person for having been touched by "Big Bubby's" shadow.  My family tree is stronger because I share a branch with him.  I could only hope to be half as impactful on the lives of others.  I cannot express enough or to what degree of reverence & admiration I carry for Marvin Cross.  He was a great man, a truly great man.  I love him dearly, I will miss him, & I will be forever grateful for having been touched by his shadow.          

I will never forget the many, many trips to the coast to see Marvin & Katie! We always had a great time giving us wonderful memories.  Marvin was always a very kind and giving man. I am honored to have known him & be a part of his family. 
We will miss you "Uncle" Marvin.
