My husband said that Mike prayed that he had helped at least one person
in his life. I will answer that I know of TWO.
We have known Mike for a very long time, but it wasn't until Victor came
home from the hospital after having his left leg amputated, that I truly
saw the person he was. We had a lot of friends who helped us out, and
are very grateful. But it was Mike who came almost every Monday night to
check on him. By the third visit, I felt like I was opening the door to
an honest-to-God ANGEL. He would just come and sit for a while and they
would talk. We were trying to restart our lives, and his visit somehow
seemed to make sense out of the chaos. He was so calm and kind. With few
spoken words, but a whole world of them in his eyes, his quiet strength
inspired both of us to do what we needed to do. He helped us both heal.
And he never even told us he was sick. I am sure he now knows what that
meant to us. See you in Heaven, buddy.
Karen, Jeffrey and Michael-it always hurts to lose someone, but when
it's someone as special as your dad, it's beyond grief. I know he would
want me to tell you that he will see you on the other side, that he's
waiting. I believe this with my whole heart, or I wouldn't say it.
Love, Karen Dockery

The only thing greater than the sorrow I feel at Mike's passing is the joy his living brought to so many who knew him. Mike and I go back a long way, thick as thieves we were. He was an intelligent, witty, and faithful friend. I'm not ashamed to say I loved the man and was honored to be among his many friends. One by one the old gang is being taken away by time leaving only memories of our largely misspent youth. I can't think of a better bunch to have wasted it with than my brothers from Lincoln Park. Mike has passed over now but he didn't travel alone. He made things right with Jesus first and I know he'll be waiting when my time comes. You come to a place in life where the balance is tilted and you realize that you have more over there than is left here. As we all approach that place in life I hope that all the friends I've known and loved as brothers and sisters receive the Lord Jesus as their Savior so we can spend eternity as we lived. Together. I know that someday I'll be joining Mike and Reedy, perhaps sooner than I think. I have made preparation for that solemn day. How about you my friends, what are you going to do in that solemn day? Love, grace and peace to Connie and the kids. God's grace is sufficient unto thee. God bless.

I first met Mike in the late 1970s and we became fast friends in the 1980s. When I was down on my luck and opportunities he graciously allowed me to reside at “Launching Pad West…..” Mike introduced me to to an appreciation of classical music (Maybe starting with Vivaldi's Four Seasons”?) and also Southern Literature, perhaps Shelby Foote's little narrative of the Civil War. When he visited me here in Washington he was an absolute sponge in soaking up the cultural opportunities available at the Smithsonian and National Gallery of Art.
Mike had a wonderful heart and a great spirit and I always loved the deep “chortle” in his voice when he considered the absurdities in life.
He was a doting father, he loved his children, he loved Connie and he loved those around him. He loved and marvelled at the complexities and frequent absurdities of life.
All of us that loved him will miss him but all of us are proud to have called him friend.
