Sergeant Nancy Ann Braden Woofter, age 67, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on August 31, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Nancy retired from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department after 28 years of service. She was a member of House Mountain Baptist Church. She had a God given talent and deep love for music, especially gospel and bluegrass. She could play ANY instrument, but her passion was the Dobro. Many called her the female Jerry Douglas, and she spent many happy hours on the stage and radio, sharing her gifts with the world. She also enjoyed singing and playing music with her friends and family and she loved crafting, drawing, shopping for a great deal, traveling, and spending time with her special feline companion, “Sweetie.” Preceded in death by parents, Amos Fred and Mary Pauline (Lundy) Braden; infant brother, Terry Fred Braden; and sister, Kathy (Braden) Taylor. Survivors include daughter, Angela (Linda Capps) Woofter; son, Bernard “Jody” Woofter; brother, Bobby (Peggy) Braden; sister, Renea (Eddie) Dunn; nieces and nephews, Dustin (Beth) Dunn, Loren (John) Stalans; Michael (Victoria) Braden, Stephanie Taylor, Kevin Taylor, Brian (Stacy) Coopet, Chris (Wyderain) Coopet, and Mandy Coopet. Special great-niece and great-nephew, Abigail Dunn and Colt Stalans; several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous other family, friends, co-workers (family in blue) of the Knox County Sheriff’s Department; and special long-time friend of 30+ years, Linda Shipley. Special thanks to Dr. Chism, CVS Pharmacy Staff on Asheville Highway, UT Hospice, and all the others who provided care and concern for her throughout this difficult journey. Family will receive friends Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 pm. Rev. Donnie Walker and Chief William Purvis will officiate. Family and friends will gather at 9:30 am on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Berry Lynnhurst and proceed to Roseberry Cemetery for an 11:00 am graveside service.
