

He was a former member of New Covenant Fellowship and had recently joined Grace Baptist Church in Karns. Ralph was a retired Landscape Architect with Tennessee Valley Authority. He was an Eagle Scout, hiker, fisherman, and avid outdoors enthusiast. He shared his passion and his love for the Lord and the outdoors with his sons and many young men through Royal Rangers. He collected and repaired antique railroad pocket watches as well as collected pocket knives. He was a faithful follower of Christ, a wonderful husband, loving father, awesome Papa, and a loyal friend.
Preceded in death by parents, Janet and Commander Ralph Porter, Sr.; precious wife, Frances Porter; and brother, David Porter.
Survived by wife, Phyllis Mercer Porter; sons, Russell Porter (Amy), Eric Porter (Emily), and David Porter (Shannon); step-children, Gina McNelly (Kevin), Jill Wallace, Derick Mercer (Heidi), Darin Mercer (Katie), Matt Mercer (Angie); grandchildren, Chloe, Fiona, Kaelin, Rowan, Ethan, Emma Grace, Eli, Elliot, Everly, Ezra, Annabella, Ryan, Jeffrey (Nicole), Jay (Eliza), Mei Ling, Graham, Grayson, Jackson, Alexis, Lincoln, Pierce, Cooper, Avery, Ashlyn, Alia, Cameron, Caden, Mattie; great grandchildren, Archie, Alastair, and Amy; sister, Charlotte Painter (Bud).
The funeral service was August 27, 2022 in Knoxville, TN. Pastor Matt Mercer officiated.
