Roy Gaylon Buttry, age 92, of Knoxville, departed this world to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was the loving husband of Lucille Greene Buttry for 56 years prior to her death. Born March 19, 1929, he was a graduate of Hancock High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and retired from Revco Drug Company (now CVS) to care for his wife after her strokes and onset of dementia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Buttry; brother, John Buttry; aunts, Nettie and Maude Martin; and parents, Frank and Ilia Mae Buttry.
He is survived by his daughter, Leah Buttry of Greenville, SC; brother, Glen Buttry of Sneedville, TN; and nieces, Janice (Lowell) Seal, Arlene (Ricky) Greene, and Jonny (Bo) Riley; nephew, Gary Buttry and his many “coffee buddies” from Hardee’s.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 17th at 3:00 pm at Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 W. Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN. Condolences may be offered at www.berrylynnhurst.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 51650, Knoxville, TN 37950-1650. The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to everyone who visited him especially the delivery volunteers of Mobile Meals who provided meals during these last few months.
