passed away Saturday, March 23,
2013 at Tennova Residential Hospice.
Mr. Arning was a 1944 graduate of
Knoxville High School, where he lettered
in 3 years of football, played on the 1943
TN State Championship Team. He also
lettered in 2 years of basketball. Victor
then joined the United States Air Force
Aviation Cadet Program 1944-1945 and
served in the Army Reserve 1956-1958
reaching the rank of Captain. He entered
the University of Tennessee in 1946 and
the University Of Tennessee School Of
Law 1946-1949. Victor entered into the
insurance business in 1950 and opened
Arning Insurance Agency in 1960-Present,
where through his career he served with
many accomplishments, both in the world
of business as well as the community:

Preceded in death by his first wife Katherine (Kat)
McBath Arning, parents Victor E. Arning Sr. and
Margaret Smith Arning Thompson. Survived by his
loving wife Dorothy Mauk Arning, son James
Nicholas “Nic” Arning, daughter Margaret Arning
Pfeifer and son-in-law Thomas S Pfeifer,
grandchildren Thomas S. Pfeifer, Jr. and wife
Pamela, all of Knoxville, Andrew Todd Pfeifer
and wife Callie of Nashville, Katherine Astley
Griffin and husband Mark of Memphis, Caroline
Anne Jacobus and husband Brian of Maryville,
J. Nicholas “Nic” Arning and wife Penney, David
Russell Arning and wife Meg and Mary Katherine
Arning, 11 great-grandchildren, step-sons Rob
Payne and wife Lisa of Knoxville, step-daughter
Randy Jean Poole and husband David. Great
Grandchildren Lindsey, Davis (Ick), Lucy, and
Macy Pfeifer, Griff, Caroline Grace, and Clare
Griffin, Julia and Kate Jacobus, Matthew and
Russell Arning. One niece Kathryn Evans.
Family and friends will meet Tuesday, March
26, 2013 at 2:45pm in the Lynnhurst Cemetery
for a 3pm interment service with Dr. David
Crutchley officiating.
