Wayne measured his years in autumns. For more than 50 years, he never missed a Vols home game — and for a stretch of some 25 years, he was at nearly every game, home or away. For decades, you could find Wayne on the golf course, where even in his 70s he could shoot his age. He and Bernice loved to travel, logging thousands of miles by road, air, and sea. You could also find him in his folding chair at football, basketball, baseball, and softball games — anything Orange — where he would ask about your parking pass, ask whether the food was ready, and always ask about your family.
Family was the point. Wayne loved a full table and a good meal, and he loved nothing more than being surrounded by the people closest to him. And that is how we will always remember him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Stella Taylor; and his sister, Joyce Wise. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Bernice Taylor; children, Debi Poe (Mike), Mark Taylor (Debby), and Amanda Morris (Brent); eight grandchildren, Jess, Taylor, Caitlin, Courtney, Kendall, Karsen, Jack, and Woodson; four great-grandchildren; and a host of additional family.
A graveside service will take place Friday, June 5th at 3:00 p.m. at Lynnhurst Cemetery, meeting at the mausoleum at 2:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Sertoma Center of Knoxville at https://givebutter.com/22AGWa or to a charity of your choice.
